From reading the archives I see that several of you have Hobie tri's. I am looking into getting one as well to go with my CD 22.

I have the predecessor to the Adventure Island (Outback?) and really enjoyed using it. I have the sail kit but never felt comfortable with stability under sail. The tri should solve that.

As a long time sailor, I know I will enjoy cove and harbor sailing after a long comfortable day in the CD 22. Might even get wet and cold on occasion!

How difficult is it to get the yak on the rack? Do you take the amas off and load them separately? Do you bring the hull up over the transom or the bow?

When you trailer, do you load the yak on the tow vehicle or just leave it on top of the C Dory?

Thanks for any help!

I don't have the Adventure or Adventure Island. The weight of the Adventure Island gets up to be about 115 lbs fully rigged/vs 58 lbs for my Revolution. The Adventure Island goes to 57.5 sq feet of sail vs the sail for any of the other boats--including the Adventure without the amas is only 20 sq feet. The weight of the Adventure Island, with Amas is what has kept me from buying one of these.

There is the Hobie "Side Kick" Ama kit for the outback. Only about 4.3 lbs. And about $159--vs the $3600 for the Adventure Island. You might try that first--and see how it goes--won't be as exciting sailing....
