HIN Number

Well, when I went to reregister the boat I noticed a possible discrepancy between the registration form and the HIN number imbedded in the stern. The last four on the registration are 0393, but the number stamped in the hull appears to be C393. It's an older boat so part of the 0 may have been rubbed out. Which one is correct? Thanks.
 
Sounds like someone read it wrong at one point in time, doesn't it. One point in your favor (if you have any problem at the DMV or wherever you go to do boat paperwork in WA) is that the letter scale they use does not go up to "O" and only boats before 1985 would have had a number there instead of a letter. So there is really no way "O" or "0" could ever have been correct (although you can see where it could be confused with "C" if someone didn't look carefully).
