Even though I've never meet you, thanks RedFox for summing up with Capecruiser, I think it's benefitial for our success as fellow boat owners to integrate with other boaters, especially those whose boats look so alike ours.
Thanks and great website you've made there! :thup

All I want is peace, this forum is one of my favorites, not only because it revolves around my fav. boat but also its tranquility and its want to help others. I think we should hug our 'sister' capecruiser :cry , not be mad at them but appreciate the diversity they will spread to us and the advances that will follow...

just a comment

Am I missing something here?

I don’t remember anyone ever not welcoming a capecruiser boater here, other than stuberg and that had nothing to do with the capecruiser. It had 100% to do with him, not the boat. Can’t figure out why these subtle hints constantly, about us not welcoming capecruiser boaters on this site.

Actually, I don't think the statement on the opening page is subtle "A Fun and Informative Place For C-Dory People". I think a key word in that statement is C-Dory, there are other places on the web for general boating discussion, I always thought this place was for C-Dory stuff.....got to go the coffee is done brewing, I had better go get a cup

old growth " ask and you shall receive"

It had a lot to do with the boat and was uncalled for. I have had stuburg on my boat and he was a really nice guy. So have some others here.

B~C - I agree with you. "A Fun and Informative Place For C-Dory People" is pretty clear. I just re-read the posts in the "I just ordered a Cape Cruiser" thread as well as this one. Looks to me that only one person was trying to stir things up - ON BOTH THREADS.

Works for me BCK. If I remember right, Bill was crystal clear a few months ago, confirming this was a C-Dory site and suggesting the water was plenty warm for anyone interested in creating a new Cape Cruiser site. We shouldn't forget our "guest" status on this site and respect his preference.

I couldn't agree more. And, hey-- I've already had my coffee today. Why is it that people buy another boat and want us to help them outfit it? I don't care if they buy a Parker, a Cape Cruiser, or whatever----- this is a site for C-Dory owners and/or C-Dory wannabe's.

Here's a good site for any type/model boat; http://my.boatus.com/forum/

Just my $.02

Actually, Im sure we have quite a few members and guests here who are not C-Dory owners. Most sites allow guests and many encourage them.

There is nothing here to stop them from reading the discussions, and after they register w/o any proof of C-D ownership, they are allowed to post just like the rest of us. The information is free and the discussion open to their participation. No problem so far.

Where we seem to get into difficulties is when we have to deal with someone who wants to make a point that he or she chose the Cape Cruiser over the C-Dory, then continues to press the issue that they made the right choice.

End of friendly discussion for a number of reasons.

If I were a new Cape Cruiser owner, I'd go low profile, take in all this site has to offer, and begin the task of building a Cape Cruiser website ASAP
to deal with specific CC issues, which those of us who own a C-Dory can't fully help with since we don't have the same boat.

I certainly wouldn't waste my time arguing with a bunch of C-Dory owners that I just bought a better boat than theirs, which is like waving a red flag in front of a bull during mating season!

Joe.

My thought is the same as Joe. I bought a C-Dory, but there were a lot of good boats out there. I just want to discuss C-Dorys (C-Dories?), not argue about which is the best boat, or even the differences.

Given that, certainly everyone is welcome to listen in and offer suggestions. Don't I? Also, there are a lot of people who are sharing their cruising experiences , and that doesn't involve a specific boat.

Boris

Note: T-8 weeks till we head for Vancouver Isle

Probably most of the new Cape Cruiser owners are only apologeticaly rationalizing and defending their purchase choice and only a few will be aggressively and/or negatively comparing the two boats, but the effect of any discussion of the relative virtues seems to agitate some, if not many, C-Dory owners.

Realizing this, the low profile road is a safer route for now, unless a new CC owner or advocate decides to make an issue of it, in which case we're right back to the unplesantness.

Understanding this in the short term, even if it means holding your opinion to yourself, makes for a better, more peaceful, website.

For those who want to discuss the various virtues of the two boats and champion the Cape Cruiser, there will hopefully be a website soon where that can be done with the same loyalty devotion, and relish there that we do here for the C-Dory.

In the meantime, "Just Be Nice".

Joe

One further note of explanation:

The reactions that one gets around here to the Cape Cruiser are not totally rational and are tainted by the short recent history between the two boats and an individual person.

The Cape Cruiser is an "electrode" issue for many C-Dory folks, and knowing that, one can avoid pushing the button!

Joe.

I'm with Sea Wolf. I think everyone should be welcome at this site as long as they have some sort of C-Dory interest. Aside from the C-D topics there is also a vast amount of really great boating info here. On the flip side, this is definitely not a place to bag on our boats! I didn't read any posts where a CC advocate was posting anything negative. Did I miss something?

2 Cents worth from a new guy who does not know any of you and there fore will have a different perspective! I bought Huda Thunkit back in November and joined this site. That boat still has not been wet due to long Alaskan winters, but along the way I have learned a lot and am proud of the rigging work that has taken place with some of your help. I also use the Hull Truth site on occasion and subscribe to Passage Maker. Neither of these have anything to do with our beloved C-dorys but a lot can be learned from other peoples experience. After all experience is what you get when you don't get what you want and I have no problem letting you go first if you get my drift. Until I see some bad mouthing going on I am fine with an open arms approach. At this point I will probably step on some toes by challanging you to a little self examination. There is one thing about this site that is somewhat of an irritation to me and that is , of the 20 some posts I have done most get so far off track that it's hard for me to follow them and I'm the guy who started them. Or if you reply offering information that you think may be helpful to someone else you are likely to find your self in a contest with every other expert with time on their hands. Some of these have turned into those of you who know each other running off on a general gab session with nothing relevant to the subject being offered. Who knows why Joe Blow buys what he does, but if he is interested in the information that your site provides you should be flattered. If he uses that information to brow beat you that is another matter. Just consider some of these items as food for thought, If we are perceived as too cliquish we may turn away folks with great input. Im looking forward to being in the water by mid May and truly do appreciate those things I have learned from some of you. Mike on Huda Thunkit

Mike-

Thanks for your comments and notes!

Points well made; we need to watch the "insider network" stuff!

Hope your neck of the woods thaws out soon!

Nice talking with you.

Joe.

Mike on Huda Thunkit,

You should have seen us in the early days!! Almost all the threads got trashed by small talk and jokes! :wink

And we liked it that way!! :smiled

But we have grown up into a large, widely read website,
which would not have been possible without Mike, Greg, and Bill to run the show.

Now we can almost stay on topic, but its like trying to herd a bunch of cats. :crook

After all this place was started by brats!!

Your analysis and ideas are very good and I agree that we should try harder!!

And remember that there is only one rule on this site...

Just be nice.

Staying on topic? it's the free range organic posting without a moderators heavy hand that makes this place the pub it is. The only problem is that it doesn't have a proper dart board so we sometimes have to throw darts at each other :)

I have no problem (not that anybody gives a rats A%^^ what I think anyhoots) about anybody joining up, they should just be respectfull of the group they're joining. I don't pay the steep monthly memberships dues for some brand X lovefest.

The Cape Cruiser and the C-Dory are more alike than they are different. Having said that, I don't think a Chevy HHR will get a warm welcome on a PT Cruiser website. There are many things that sold me on the C-Dory (although we did look twice at the CC): the factory support, the classy styling, the track record, but most of all: the wonderful group of owners on this website. You've allowed me to learn and inquire here, but it was our decision (and $$) to order the CD-25. If I had chosen to go another route, I would assume I could quietly hang out here, but should find a another place where owners of the same make and I could congratulate each other on our buying decisions. There are a lot of Harley clones that look and sound like an H-D... but, you won't see them as members of the Harley Owners Group. I appreciate the inclusive attitude here that allows anyone to participate; just remember that it's the "Home for C-Dory People."

My 2 pesos,
Jim B.

I believe that should read "...Mike and Bill to run the show" :beer :beer

Hi Roger,

Greg (RedFox) was listed as an assistant manager on the original C-Brats Online since 3-18-02, but I am not sure if he was active as a manager on this new C-Brats.

My history may need a refresher.

How's your rain? We're onboard in Ventura and the rain gets real loud at times. (and 2" in the cockpit this am)
