help with search

I have been trying to use the search to find pictures of how folks have installed the switches for their windlass. I just dont know where i want to put the switch. Not much room at the helm and I am not happy about running more wire up to the overhead. Iam trying to keep the wire runs as short as possible. So any ideas or photos.

Tom, I installed the windlass switch here:windlass_switch_001.thumb.jpg with the circuit breaker under the wheel. I like to keep the breaker off until actually using the windlass. These locations have worked out very well.

A suggestion Tom. I mounted mine about where Barry did. I'd recommend you put it somewhere where you can easily reach it (and hold it for awhile) with your left hand. That leaves your right hand free to steer into the anchor line while pulling it up or letting it down, and also to work the throttle to allow the anchor to come up with no pressure from the boat.

I have the breaker installed behind my seat, and it is in the open (off) position until needed. The toggle switch is located to left of the helm.

Good morning,

I also have the breaker on behind the helm seat, but I placed the control in the upper right hand corner of the helm console, as far over toward the window and as high as possible for ease of anyone operating it to glance at while keeping the windlass in view...works great.

All good idea's that gave me a idea for location. Have to go look at it later today.

one question I have is, why does the switch have to be pushed up for line down and down for line up??? who's Idea was that?

How about push the switch in the direction the line is traveling? Mount the switch on a level surface and you toggle the switch forward for the line to travel forward and down, back for the line to travel up and back into the locker. Just depends on how you look at it.

Ok that makes some sense. I was thinking of mounting it on the vertical surface next to and in back of the seat. I dont have to see it to run it. The problem is I have the trim tabs and auto pilot in the best spot already.

Just make sure you put it someplace where it can't be activated by accident! I think that would be more of a problem with a vertival mount.

With susan on board any where could be a bad spot. No matter where I put it I will have the breaker tripped unless I am using the switch. Stops any bad thing from happening.
