Help!! Thru-hull drilled -- not seeing the balsa core

I'm installing a Wallas stove on our new 2008 CD22 and just finished drilling the hull for the exhaust thru-hull. I'm now looking to "dig" out the balsa core and fill with epoxy -- but I don't see the balsa core?? Does the balsa core look just like the fiberglass? I expected the feel of wood, but the middle feels/looks just like solid fiberglass.

Are the sides of the hull balsa core?? My drill location is the same height as the thru-hull for the sink drain. The thickness of the hull in this location is approx. 1/4 inch.

Am I missing something?

My suspicion is that the hull where you vent the Wallas is in fact, solid glass, with no core. Usually, the coring is in the bottom of the hull, and weight bearing surfaces like the gunnels, fore deck, etc.. You would see wood if it were cored;

In the hull, the bottom is cored--the sides are not. The transom is plywood (some newer are foam). Decks are balsa and some places plywood. Aft bulkhead is balsa, interior in the 25 and TC are balsa cored--and the top is variously balsa and solid.

There is a photo of the cross section of the 22 floating around somewhere.
