Help! The site won't accept photos for my album!

Hi Brats,

I've been trying to upload photos of Valkyrie (running shots taken by Salty Dog on Lake Erie) but when I hit "Upload" I get a message saying it can't accept my format.

I'm using a 2001 iMac with OS 9.0 with photos in jpeg. The computer will be replaced shortly, but I need some help. Any suggestions?

New i-mac? Love my G-5 I mac. Janet got a i-book for her Masters work. We think that we were using the "old" i-mac with our photo album on the C-Brats. Had a few problems at the beginning - I know daNag helped us out at least once. Good luck!

I have the same system presently that you do, although my wife has ordered a new iMac G5 system, prompted most recently by problems viewing the C-Brat Map.

I get the same response as you do if my camera is set on the highest definition possible. Don't know why it blames it on the format, but Bill Da Nerd told me once it was because the file size was simply to large (too many pixels and therefore bytes).

On photos I plan to use on this site or on ebay, I simply take the photos on the lower definition settings, as it saves time uploading them as well.

We'll have to get someone to help us use a program to process the larger files into smaller ones. Like you, I often want the greater definition for printing, and don't know exactly what use I'm going to make of the photos when taking them, so start out in the high definition mode.

Joe.

Thanks Joe,

I'll contact the head nerd and see if there is some way to post my pictures. I have some great Lake Erie running shots and would really like to share them.

Hey, Nick! We are anxious to see your pix, hope you get the problem solved. I wonder if you can use a photo editing program, maybe IrfanView or something, to reduce the resolution and file size? I am sure Da Nerd can help you solve this one...

There's a number of possible options to reduce the size of the images on a mac. Here's a couple of likely ones -

It's been a LONG while since I used OS9 but if you have i-photo in OS9 you should be able to export at lower resolution - I would recommend something like 640 x 480 pixels or perhaps 1/2 that in each dimension.

Graphic converter is a tool I have used in the past and I know version of that exist to run on OS9. It's pretty cheap shareware $30 but it will run without registration. Apple bundles it with the OS now.
