thank you for the replys, heres what susan finally came up with. part her's part not her's. its for a christmas card for my dads present.
Rearing from the shadowed prow
I ride in weathered grace,
Guiding ship and crew from harm,
I hold the hull, with backswept arms
Within her worn embrace.
Clouds have smeared away the stars
Above the highest sail,
My carven fingers smoothly sweep
Above the bounding waves, that leap
To kiss my tail.
Dolphins tag the starboard waves
Beneath the fading moon,
To pay Me tribute in salty spray
Before they hurl themselves away
Through shades of deep maroon.
I dance with seamen in ships and taverns
As my spirits have made me loved
I am carried over land and sea
And passed around to friends at tea
In glass I am gloved.
I wonder if you feel miss led
Our poem had turned in it head
We started with a female myth, and ended with another
So perhaps I just give mermaid visions
And blissful time spent with a lover
My gently kiss Will stain your lips
Have you guessed? Then open my cover.
