Hello C-Dory folks,

I have been coming to this site for quite some time for tips and ideas for my 1983 C-dory.(very good site) I launch from Sacramento or Stockton CA and an average trip is 300+ miles 4 days, my wife calls it extreme boating.

My boat, 1983 Classic with a 2001 115 FICHT Evinrude, 7.5 Johnson kicker.
71 gal. fuel capacity, propane cabin heat,Garmin GPS and an assortment of depth sounders and such.

anyone interested in a SF Delta to Monterey run?

Doug

Doug,

Sac. to Monterey is some serious C-Dory boating! I would like to hear more about this. Do you carry a liferaft or survival suit for the offshore trips? Does your wife go along or do you go alone.

Do you have any pics of your boat and trips?

It could be a very nice trip on the right day but could also be very challenging.

Roger, thanks for the hello.

Steve,

I always go alone on the long trips, the wife and kids like boating in the lake.(no adventure there).
Three weeks ago I took the Dory from Sacramento to Half Moon bay, total trip was about 368 miles. Lots of restruants and points of interest on the way :beer
This time of year is pretty rough out in the ocean,I would plan the Monterey trip for some time in Sept. when the winds are better.
As far as survival gear goes i carry a strobe w/ infared, radio. cell phone
and personal large inflatable flotation vest and small raft.
I have been in some big!!!!!! water off the coast and have been scared s-itless a few times but I always come home with a smile.

In August I think I'll do the Delta restraunt/bar tour, a couple days of boating eating and perhaps a beer or more.

Doug,

If you let me know when/where you are going in the delta I may be able to get out and meet you somewhere. I usually avoid the delta heat during the summer but there are some interesting areas to explore.

Not sure I would want to do the trip to Monterey in my C-Dory. I did a trip from Half Moon Bay to Monterey on a friends Passport 40 sailboat and that was very enjoyable. But that was a heavy cruising sailboat and it handled the 25knt afternoon winds easily.

Hi Doug,

Welcome. I wish I could join you, but I am on the East Coast. I also have a 1983 Classic Angler 22' C-Dory. I love it. I reengined it a few years ago to a 75 4 stroke Yamaha. Dropped the stern a bit, but she works very well. I have had it in 25 to 35 knot winds and she handled very well.

I love a lot of things about the Classic. Easier to get into the forward bunk area. Head is located in such a place that one, if male, can use it while under sail. The construction of cabinets fit together with L clamps and screws lends it to accepting wood projects that make it a better boat. I have added a galley aft of the steering station, two shelves, one under the dinette table, and one to the right of the helm. I also filled in the area beside the engine well for storage, and built a seat on the aft of the cockpit for storage and naps. Result is a great boat for me that should last a long time.

I love the true dory hull.Efficient and sea worthy. By the way, the early classic hull is an Ed Monk design. Nothing ameriturish(sp) about that.

Happy sailing, and enjoy.

Fred
