Has anyone made it out to Beaver Island (Michigan) in a CD?

This has made it to my list of places to explore this summer. I can't imagine it escaped from the interest of CDory'ers other than there aren't many of us in this part of the world?

Your link above is a little broken - here's a better one. Also, a quick search of the site finds several mentions of Beaver Island.

Yep, it is one of our favorite places to visit. We had gone 6 or 7 times on the trawler and then last year we went out there with the C-Dory 22. We left from Mackinac Island and stayed a couple nights in the municipal marina and 1 night anchored/beached on Hog Island.

Beaver Island is a great place to visit - very laid back, awesome smoked fish sold there, cheap rental cars to explore island, Island time...

Thanks for fixing my link eh. Searching: yes yes, I do that too sometimes, but then how to make new connections with everyone? I agree, general "is the CD a good boat for me..." stuff should be directed straight (and tactfully) to the wonderful search function this site has, but more regional, obscure stuff might still have value by asking.

And how would I have discovered THAT AMAZING COTTAGE any other way!!! Look at the albums!! :)

we stayed at beaver island on our great loop trip. Beautiful with little car traffic. We explored on motor scooters. One side of the island has huge sand dunes and with the clear blue water looked like the Caribbean(but definitely without the warm water) Enjoy the trip.

Been there several times. The public docks are tall for C[Dory's and the harbor is open to the east. If you expect a blow do a four-way tie. There are private docks too with expensive gas. I like the public dock, clean, etc. Good walking around town, nice bike and walking path to a park on the north side of the island that has a nice view of Garden and Hog Islands. Some good protected anchorages at those smaller islands, good places for C-Dory's with shallow draft. Lots of history and a small museum in town, lending library on the front porch of the museum (housed in old Mormon print office). From Beaver going E thru Grays Reef you will see two toothpicks on the horizon, the Mackinac Bridge. North is Manistique worth a short visit, and NW are Fayette and Escanaba worth longer visits. I have a few pics in my album.

Regards,

Mark - this got me to peruse your photo album a bit. I must say, your 22 is one of the more nicely and fully customized 22's (set up for fishing) that I've seen.
