Halcyon News

A couple of years ago someone here was telling us about growing up and having to eat lutefisk as part of the family ritual. No wonder he hated it!

Joe.

OK Bill, I believe you have made Lutefisk sound terrible.
I agree , if it is cooked too long it does become a pile of jelly. but I have to say that if cooked right it is way better than salmon

Hey Roger - if lutefisk is better than salmon, I have a pile of dog poop mousse for you that are just going to love!

It certainly sounds like lutefisk is not going to make it to the
Southeast ( never heard of it ) but I am smoking some
Soc Eye Salmon right now  following SeaDNA
recipe minus the onion. Enjoying your posts El and Bill !!
Too bad you made your Lake Martin trip before
my bride and I knew about C-dory.
Got a good pic of you two at the SBS

Ah, we thought the lutefisk would get a rise from some of you -- especially the Scandahoovians.

Thanks for the great picture, Jeff -- and that ain't no lutefisk on the plate.

Also -- another post on the Halcyon site -- this time about that much under-rated cruising area (un)renowned in the cruising world -- South Sound.

http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/southsound.htm

Thanks to all of you who posted, sent, or called us about places to visit in the South Sound. Sure appreciated the guidance for our cruise there this past week.

We are anchored in a slough, off the Pend d'Oreille River, just west of Sandpoint, ID. We have posted a tale of cruising on Idaho's Lake Pend d'Oreille on our Halcyon Days website.

www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/pend

We may be adding more pictures and tales to this site since we are still cruising the lake -- it's a beaut!

Oh, and coming into the dock at Sandpoint late this morning, a couple ran to the end of a dock -- they were waving and saying they recognized El!! It was Rae and Dennis, new owners of a C-Dory, who had just been reading our website and here was Halcyon cruising into 'their' waters!! They hadn't read about the cruise on Pend d'Oreille, so were sure surprised to see us -- they joined our gang for a nice lunch in Sandpoint.

We are on the west side of the Cascades, heading back to Bellingham. Our cruising in Northern Idaho was marvelous.

Her's our take on the lakes (seen through our cruising filter and love of wildlife:

Upper Priest Lake -- best --wild and remote, great moose.
Priest -- beautiful, wooded shores, beaches, summer homes, clean water, nice lake
Pend d'Oreille -- Southern part wild and beautiful with good wildlife, cliffs and deep water -- few anchorages. Northern part, more places to anchor and more folks
Coeur d'Alene - many homes, especially in the north, nice tourist town to visit, many anchorages but few that are isolated -- most have homes along the shore. Many high speed boats in summer.

All three are great to visit, in close proximity, and wonderful scenery and a little something for almost all tastes (including some delicious fish! -- thanks, Pat).

www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/2007 and scroll down to August for the tales on the three lakes.

El & Bill - when you get back to Bellingham, where will you be heading and how long will you be in the Puget Sound area? I would enjoy seeing the two of you again if our two schedules allow it.

We are in Bellingham now -- off to visit friends (on land) today, resupply boat tomorrow, then head out to San Juans and maybe up into the Gulf Islands. Don't know how long we'll be here -- we don't like to set dates for ourselves, in our lifestyle -- but if weather stays good, probably a few weeks.

Hi El and Bill,

We are planning on launching from Bellingham this Sunday for most of 3 weeks cruising. Maybe we will meet up somewhere. I am thinking we might go to the Gulf Islands the first week but we also don't make specific plans.

We will most likely go to Sucia for our first stop - it is one of our favorites. We will be cruising with our friends who have a Kingfisher 27. So if you see a large aluminum boat with a CD22 trying to keep up that will be us.

Hope to see you guys or any other C-Brats that are around.

Only one more day at work then 3 weeks off - Yaaahoo! :D .

Steve & Karen

Dave -- we often have one engine up, when in shallow water, so you might not see the twin -- we do have twin forties

Steve and Karen - hope to see you when you're in the NW

For all -- Dropped our computer, so will be 'on vacation' a few weeks, except when we can borrow one (like now). Knocked out the screen. So, if any urgent need to contact try our cell phone. Roger (Sensei) has the number and can p.m. you our number, if necessary.

So -- we're off the air for awhile -- but on the water. Looking forward to reading a few good books ...

OK then Bill - a PERFECT opportunity to make the move to a MacBook!!!!
