So, where are you now? We are still talking about the gathering in June, and soon will announce whether we will be repeating next year..We want to top that figure of 30 boats..and Lankford Bay welcomes us back!

I'm greatlyenjoying Sally's Sister...My daughter Sally and I spend five days on her recently...travels to Baltimore, Little Choptank, St. Michael's and Wye Island...

The boat will be in a slip at Hill's Marina, Grays Inn Creek, this year, but i am maneuvering for a new truck and trailer for next year so that we can be off to anyplace, USA.

Oh. forgot. Our band is off to Ireland in September to play Clifden Arts Week...one of the only American bands invited...jazz and blues..and a touch of Chesapeake Bay music. Kids in Clifden all know The Chester River Song!

Nice stuff as usual Bill and El. And...took time to do a little more poking about on the site. OK... I have spent the last 2 hours reading and looking...wishing we were on some water, in some area or our Great Country. Loved your Great Loop map...although I did notice that your little run up the AL river to Montgomery was not highlighted... Thanks for the memories.

That's the one I'd really like to see (Alabama river to Montgomery) since I have support up there (relatives) and am planning a Gulf crossing to Mobile now.
 
Flagold: Just let me know when you are in the area and I'll be glad to load ya some maps and charts.. Bill and El are correct with the fuel...and most folks miss the point that once you hit the fork in the river down south....you still have 40 miles to Mobile.

I picked up a couple books that together piece most of what I want to do together --

Thomas, Marian et al. Tennessee River, Tenn-Tom Waterway, and Lower Tombigbee River; McGraw-Hill, 1995. -- this is a great book for many subjects on river cruising (which bend to take, how to anchor, what to look out for, etc.) -- well worth the look.

Rhodes, Rick. Cruising Guide to Florida's Big Bend; Pelican Publications, 2003. -- this is much more than the Big Bend -- gives cruising info far into Ga/Alabama as well on the Flint and Chattahoochie (to the top of the Suwannee as well and many more).

I do have the electronic charts (Raymarine C-70) already.

Did you know that Rick Rhodes the author you mentioned for another book, almost bought a C-Dory, But he changed his mind because he planned to live aboard so he wound up with a 24' Nimble Nomad. This was before the 25' was avaiable.
 
Too bad -- the CD-22 is a perfect liveaboard boat. Easier to trailer, launch, anchor and cruise than the Nimble. Nothing like the ol' KISS (keep it simple, stupid) concept -- rather than the 2-foot-it-iss nonsense, or maybe three-foot-it-iss. I know -- that's positively Unamerican -- we should all know that bigger is better.

Much more trawler-like than our C-Dorys. I will say this, in the book he mentions not being able to go up places I go in the C-Dory all the time, so he did have a draft problem when the water got really skinny. From the looks of the interiors, the boat would be a much easier boat to live on full time, if that's what he was doing (sorry El & Bill) -- as would the small 25' houseboat I posted awhile ago -- but they are not near as adaptable utility tools as our C-Dory boats are.

The book you bought is extremely detailed on safe anchorage locations (with drawings, maps, guides, photos), I think you'll be pleased with that one. Evidently they don't sell many because it took awhile to get mine (about a month).
 
Thank you for the Chessie stories, looking forward to the Erie Canal pictures and narrative. By the way your comments above about the liveability of the 22 (which I agree with but so much depends on admiral) reminded me -- Thanks very much for the teddy-bear story and pictures, I forgot to say thanks when you posted. That episode had the best pictures of Halcyon, particularly of the interior. I am stealing a minute at work but wishin' I was anchored in some skinny water somewhere.

Thanks for the nice comments -- that Teddy bear tale was written for some school kids up your way -- in Minnesota , actually. We're heading back to Erie Canal within the next few weeks. Might make it to the Great Lakes before or after the Gathering. Do you plan to come? Not too long a haul for you.
 
El and Bill,

You know our heart will always belong to the C-Dory. But we should be able to post a review of the Nimble as we've rented one out of Brewerton, NY for the week of October 8-15. (Sorry we couldn't make the September cruise with all you fine folks.)

Keep us posted on how the Erie cruise goes and of course we'd appreciate any special advice.
