Hi folks,

Firstly, we want to extend our thanks to Bob and Marie Austin, who invited us to their home to meet Pat and Patty, crew of Daydream from the PNW, who were cruising the Great Loop back in 2017. Their blog on this site. Thank you all! Since 2017, we have completed 5,300 miles and 222 locks to date, mainly in one-way segments each year. For more info, see the FAQ on GreatLoop.org. We live right on the Loop route, and prefer to spend about six weeks on Cat O’ Mine before returning to the dirt house. YMMV.

Some of our adventures are on this site under Grand Adventures. This new segment is on FindPenguins.com (thanks to Molly Brown crew Betty and James for finding it). The link is:

If you elect to ‘follow’ you’ll get a notice when we post a new ‘footprint’ on Penguins.com. If your browser has trouble with the public key, email me at johnhighsmith9@gmail.com and I can send a private key that always works. Safe Travels!

This week we finished the Great Lakes segment of our Loop…1,116 miles. We had three weather days waiting for Lake Erie to calm down, but none for Lake St Clair, Lake Huron or even Lake Michigan, the UP or Green Bay or the “Death’s Door” area between them (with over 111 shipwrecks, most before lighthouses and modern navigation tools). We’ve really enjoyed the crisp nights, mid-70’s days with very low humidity, and the amazingly clear cold (63 degrees) water. We’ve been very lucky with the weather, but the Sturgeon Bay Harbor Host says the worst winds are mid-August, just when the Looper Clot is up here. Hope you too have a chance to explore it someday soon!
