Alrighty then Liz and I finally got to get the anytime baby in the water for the first time. Liz's brother Bill (da nag ) came along with us to give us a hand and was a big help. Thanx Bill. we when we set out it was a real nice lookin' day no wind no waves... that soon changed as the wind came up as did the size of the waves, was a real learning experience, had good time and everything worked and ran well. was a good shake down cruise over all. looking forward to being on the water a whole bunch this season. see ya out there. :D :D :D well you can steal my wallet, you can flirt with my wife, but mess with my boat , then you're risking your life!
 
Well I'm going guess the waves got to be like 3- 3 1/2 ft, I know Liz thought they were much bigger than that. She was worried about the boat taking it , but Bill assured her that the boat could and would take more than she could. Got the boat trimmed out and was impressed by the fuel mileage that we were getting ( 20 knots 1.8 mpg ) .... I slowed down for the big stuff but 2-2 1/2 ft we powered right on thru, nice ride. Bill was a big help showed us some tricks with radar / charts ect... when we went to put her back on the trailer I was glad he was there to help, a little windy and ramp really not steep enough so that was some fun. over all was a great experience.

I'm terrible at estimating such things, but just high enough so we couldn't put the hammer down and lift that tunnel between the hulls above them. I'm guessing 3-4 foot?

'Twas indeed a great learning experience, not only in boat handling but in how fast things change on the Strait. Dead calm when we left, and barely a ripple as we blasted west to Freshwater Bay, then back east to the Dungie lighthouse. Turned around to come back to PA, and it went from flat to windy/nasty/unlimited whitecaps in about 10 minutes.

Fortunately the Raymarine lessons were undertaken during the calm majority of the trip. Mostly I was right at home given my C80 exposure, although I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to turn on the non-existent autopilot and enable the "I'm fairly certain it exists" AIS. :mrgreen:

So, Roger good buddy...whut's the trick on that AIS? I saw the big, AIS master switch and we turned it on - but the icon never activated on the display. Otherwise, I gotta admit - that first mate station you installed is DA BOMB!
 
Hey Bill after getting home and reading the manual some more I think I got a handle on how to turn the AIS on. Will have to try it next time out, but I'm sure Roger will be able to give some better info on how it's done.

But hey...given the proximity of your driveway to the ship traffic, I'm guessing you should be able to test it out on the trailer.
 
Guys, The AIS gets it's signal from the small Garmin on the helm. It uses 4800 Baud Rate. If you change the E-80 to provide that, other things stop working! So the Garmin and the AIS master both have to be on. I used to try it out while in our driveway (at 800') and get 40-50 hits from up to 65 miles away!

I would have liked an Auto Pilot but realistically, things appear in front of you so fast when cruising over 20 kts, it would have been dangerous at times.
 
sounds like a good shake down run, i was looking out the window earlier in the am(window overlooks the bay) thinking man today would be a great day to be out there. only to see it white capping hours later and thinking hope no one got caught in that one.... look forward to running into another cdory on the water here.
 
Hey thanks Roger that clears it all up for why I couldn't get it to work, will now have to go down to the driveway and try it out . I'm up on the bluff right above the PA boat haven ramp, so should get plenty of hits from here.
