I am picking up a new to us Dory in a few weeks. It needs some work and I am looking for a good shop to perform the work near Baltimore/Pasadena, MD. Work that needs done will include,
Polish/wax - needs a professional, not the normal yearly buff.
Install on a heater
Windows resealed
Install marine CD/speakers
I'd love to upgrade the manual wipers to electric.

We also need a good canvas shop too as we loved our camperback and this one has none.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Cutter Marine used to be a C-Dory dealer some folks liked them some did not. The previous C-Dory management tried to jam the with boats and somebody decided to tell somebody to take a hike. Anyway these people know the boats and have a decent reputation with most folks. Cutter Marine 1900 Old Eastern Ave. Middle River, Md. 21221 ph 410-391-7245 just north of Baltimore on Middle River. They have a nice marina also.

That's not exactly what happened with Cutter but I'm sure they would do a good job for you if they are still in business. Actually, we met the owner of Cutter at the 2005 CD gathering in Langford Bay and his complaint was that the factory would not give him enough boats. Jeff Messmer (lately of Ranger Tug fame) was the marketing guy for CD at the time attended the gathering as well and speaking off line with him, it was confirmed that the factory had to "ration" boats as they couldn't keep up with the current demand.

Hopefully other local owners will chime in with places too that have done things for their boats. There is also a Ranger Tug dealer there also, Chesapeake Tugs (I think) who might be an option as well.

Last year I had the boat hauled, power washed, bottom painted with two coats and the entire hull compounded and waxed for $975 at Ferry Point Marina on the Magothy.

I was very pleased with the price and quality of work. I did have some minor problems communicating with the Shop Manager (he didn't return calls), but this was worked out. I found it worked much better to email the marina staff (kim@ferrypointmarina.com).

Thanks, Dick

Charlie,
Not that it matters all that much but I traveled to Cutter and looked at a couple used C-Dory's at their marina. Jeff M was long gone from C-Dory at that time. It was about the the same time Les from EQ also was reported to be no longer selling C-Dory's. I asked Cutter specifically why they were no longer selling C-Dory's and that was what I was told. They were pressured into buying boats they did not want. I pressed for the answer because I didn't want to buy from someone who had lost the dealership for other reasons. But if you really know differently I guess they lied to me.

Sea Angel (CD25) was purchased from Cutter Marine and I would deal with them again. They were very responsive to any questions and action items.

My experience was from 2005. May have changed. Different times, different stories. The company also changed hands after 2005.

I called Cutter today and got there answering machine using the number I provided in previous post, they close at four pm this time of year. They still seem to be in business. My trip to their marina looking at boats was in the fall of 2008 I believe. No one was saying they could get enough boats at that time. By 2009 the fire sales started when dealers started losing floor planning.

I always thought that C-Dory's marketing plan was going to hurt them, heck they diden't need to push the boats to sell them...I know of dealers that would have loved to just get the 22' boats ....but had no use for the smaller or larger boats.

I was just thinking....don't you live in California ? Does this mean a Road Trip ? What great fun .... I have done this with motorcycles and it truly is fun...met lots of neat folks too.

Cutter sounds like a good dealer as most of the other dealers of C-Dory boats....the flakey dealers fall out fast...C-Dory boats are not cheap, quick sell, never see the customer again type boats...and the great ones are there after the sale.... most are folks you would like as friends, at least the few I know personally are. folks I would like come have dinner at my house people...

We purchased E-Sloane from Ruth and Gary at Cutter in 2007. Great people to work with. We think very highly of them. Jack and I still run into them at boat shows and always have a chat. As far as canvas work, Marty's Bag Works, Edgewater, MD made our Bimini and framework. They did a beautiful job at a very reasonable price. Their phone is 410 956 2869 or 800 557 5540. We purchased our boat from Cutter. Very good to deal with. Service always preformed when promised. I was SHOCKED when C-Dory dropped them. They really promoted the line. Attending shows , lots of adv., good salesmen. In my mind the perfect dealer. Gary did tell me that C-Dory wanted him to stock 16 footers and he said he just never had a ny calls for the 16 foot boats. He did have 22s, 25s and Cats in stock. What the hell was the factory thinking!

I do not have their number but I have had good FG repair with other boats at Chesapeake Yachting Center. They are located at the top of Frog Morter Creek. I kept my larger boats there for many years.

Welcome to the land of easy living.
