gelcoat repair

I have an 05 with a gelcoat called Nomad grey. It has some scratches on the bow area, both sides , from the person from which I bought the boat.
No one seems to carry this particular color.
Was wonder if I could fill the scratches and get a bottom paint somehow of the same color and just paint it?
Any and all suggestions are appreciated.

Jim,

We have a 23v (2013) in the Nomad color. Try contacting the factory for a source where you can purchase some. I know for sure that it is available.

Unfortunately if you just paint the area of the scratches, it may not look good. Gel coat is very glossy, bottom paints are going dry with a mat finish, even if you match the color. Scratches are not unusual in this area. If small enough you might be able to put one of the plastic bow guards over the area.

I would try and match the color with white gel coat and add black pigment until you are very close. It does not take much to match that. The Factory probably has the color code for the grey--and it is possible that Spectrum color can get a small amount of that color. I believe that this is the grey:C-Dory Roberts Grey item # F50-17000 from Cook Composites. Spectrum Color may be able to sell you a small patch kit.

As mentioned Spectrum Color can probably make you some, the bummer will be getting it shipped to Tok. GelCoat is classified as A HazMat. Spectrum quoted me around $150 in shipping for 2oz of gelcoat paste to Anchorage. I am working with CAC Plastics in Wasilla for a solution. I may bundle in with one of their orders or let them try their hand at color matching. Currently undecided, but unless i wrangle some shop space it will not matter until next spring anyway.

regards,
Dave
