Anyone have an update? I cant locate any details just a lot of stories.
We plan to drive to Florida next month and stop by Wefings and will be driving through AL to FL instead GA.

thanks

Heard from a friend in south Ga this morning...most stations had gas, and prices were as low (ha!) as 3.30. Here in Asheville, NC our situation is slightly better than last week...almosy half of the stations have gas at one time or another...avg...3.99-4.39.

Along the Gulf Coast, gas is definately available--but mostly regular. There are the occasional station which is out--but that is the exception. This would hold true for stations along I 65, at least inland a few hundred miles. Price in Pensacola is currently $3.54. You may find it a bit less in Alabama.

The Gulf coast oil industry output is only 40% of normal. We hear that one of the problems is the distribution centers further inland. As soon as a customer gets down 1/4 tank, they fill up, in fear that they will not be able to find fuel the next day--thus the storage tanks have not caught up.

Diesel is readily available in Pensacola and on the ICW--We have not seen any shortages. One of our local stations didn't have gas today, but they had diesel. If I was driving across Country on I 10, I would be most concerned about the area around Orange, and Beaumont, Texas. We have a cousin who lives there, and that area has been hit hard several times in the last years--including this last storm.

I won't be on the Gulf Coast until January so hopefully things will be stabilized by then.

We have the impression that the cruising grounds east of New Orleans and north of Ft. Myers has been pretty torn up and few services are available. Is this accurate?

How is the availability for diesel? And maybe Jim can comment on the TX situation...

Hi Warren,

We're in Phoenix right now, but check with folks in TX regularly. No problems getting fuel in the southern part of the Gulf Coast (from Victoria/Port Lavaca south to Port Isabel). No idea what's happening north of there, but I would expect problems from Houston to New Orleans on the water. Damage in the Houston area is going to take time to repair... years.

Alok, you out there? Care to tell us what's happening locally for you folks?

We had unusually high tides after Ike, and understand our dock was underwater daily for a week or so. That being the case, it would be a good idea to check ahead of time with marinas in the Rockport/Port Aransas/Corpus Christi area, as well.

Best wishes,
Jim

We also had some high tides with Ike and Gustav--even shifted the aircraft carrier Oriskany in 275 feet of water!

But, I would in no way characterize the cruising grounds being at all "torn up". Business is as normal in most of the marinas. Ofter than high water and some barrier Island errosion, all is "normal". Dog River is in full swing, Eastern Shore marinas OK-Home Port, The Wharf and Pirate's cove I have personally checked as well as Holiday Harbor, all of the Orange Beach marinas etc are open. I cannot speak for New Orleans, but there are places to anchor each nigh there and all of the way along the coast--not going to be a problem. All of the Mississippi flesh pots are open and taking people's money.

I'd settle for half the gas if it was near your price. Ours just went down by a dime to $4.79, (for Regular unleaded), up here on the NW corner.

I talked to a marina in Rockport and and another on Padre Island and both assured me they were undamaged and open for business. The lady at the assisted living facility in Portland (Corpus Christi) where my Mom will be staying said they were spared, that it was the Galveston folks who were hurting.

Come over to Anacortes for your gas, then. It is around $3.40 here.
