Garmin StreePilot C530

I have a similar, but earlier model. Works fine--but we are looking at getting the larger screen Nuvi (4.3" screen). The screens have slightly better resolution and are bigger. They all do about the same thing.

Certainly a great price.
 
Don't buy it. Instead, go to West Marine on "Black Friday" (the day after Thanksgiving) and get a brand new NUVI 200w for $129.99. One day price only. If they're sold out, place a backorder for one. Either way, has to be done that day, unless you can get them to take your payment on a "will call" basis now, and hold the unit for pick up on Black Friday. Some stores will, some won't.

No I have a refurb TomTom 720 with large screene (4.3"), plays mp3 and Audible books (now, listening to Gregory Peck reading the New Testament), blue tooth, FM transmitter, coonects to Ipod and handles SB cards. I bought it from buy.com with one yr warranty. TT also has desktop software for updates and can plan trips on the PC and other features. I like it but........ does not allow writing of documents or documenting trips, gas usage, comments, etc.. You can read documents installed from PC and it is not a voice recorder. Still using my Palm but moving up to an iTouch instead on a Palm.
 
Like Dr. Bob, I have a Garmin Streetpilot 2620 and have used it for about 4 years in various vehicles, now residing in my pickup truck. I also have the newer Garmin Nuvi 650 with Bluetooth and that's the one we use most often. Smaller screen, but much better audio and the all important hands free feature via bluetooth. It easily transfers between our car and the RV and is a delight to own and use.

Personally, I'd pass on the C330. Personally, I passed on getting a bigger screen and trade size for bluetooth capability. As a driver, I prefer listening to "Da Bitch" rather than even glancing at a screen somewhere so size didn't matter, audio quality does. I leave the watching to spousal unit.

If it's your first GPS, pick a major brand because once you've done so (and endured the learning curve) you're gonna have a tendency to stick to that brand.

Consider Bluetooth. Mine downloads the cell phone phonebook so it's fall down easy to call someone, plus your naviguessor can pull up a restaurant or RV park using the find feature and at the touch of a screen, call them directly for reservations.

On the fun side, most of the newer units "speak" street names rather than "turn left at the next intersection". In So Cal, with lots of spanish street names, this can make for a somewhat hilarious ride. Felecita Dr? Fullashitta drive. La Vajada? La Vagina, and my fave on the Marine base, Guadalcanal Rd becomes Gwadalkunel Rd.

Whatever you buy, enjoy. Like the Brat site, it becomes addictive.

Hey Don- My Suzie, the voice on my Streetpilot C-330 resents being referred to that way.She speaks very plainly, and has always got us where we want to go. Besides, I love her.

Hah! That's because you do everything she tells you, Marty. Try straying. At first she's nice but then she gets disgusted and it shows in her rolling-eyes version of "Recalculating". :roll: She once took me to Boris's place (Journey On) and you can't believe the grief she gave me because one road was closed off to traffic. If I wanted that kind'a crap I'd let spousal unit guide me. Sheesh. "Da Bitch" she is, Da Bitch she will remain.

I love the way she says, "recalculating". Just writing it gives me goosebumps. and that "detour' button, oh my.

"recalculer" sounds a lot sexier than "recalculating" !! :shock:
 
Jill, the voice in our Street Pilot c340, sounds full of just barely contained disgust that we would be so foolish as to think we might know better than she knows about where we are going and how to get there...Her "recalculating" says, between the lines, "How DARE you go straight when I said to turn left?" Uncle, Jill does speak street names too. If it was a Street Pilot c330 for $93 or not buy something else because it costs $300, I would have no qualms with the c330.

I have the nuvi 200w and really love it. paid under $150 last summer. It does not have blue tooth or traffic but for what I use it for its great and easy to use. I like the flatter screen then the street pilots.

Costco online has the Garmin Nuvi 750 for 199.00. That is a great price and a great unit.

Long time Garmin user, but I just jumped ship to TomTom. The Go 720 Brent mentioned earlier, is available as a refurb at Amazon right now - $159 delivered, with latest firmware and maps available. With the updates, it's essentially a 730, which goes for $350+. I'll follow up once it arrives, but it seems to get pretty rave reviews.

While a refurb, this unit has far more capabilities than the Nuvi 250W Black Friday special...for $30 more. It's more comparable to the some of the higher end Nuvi's mentioned already, but even then, it has features lacking on the 650/750 (Bluetooth, voice address input.)

Here's a link listing a comparison chart of most of the units recommended here. www.gpsreview.net has some good stuff, if one feels the need to do some more research.
 
HHmmm Here's a good handheld one for the car, boat and field.
The Garmin Astro will also keep track of my dogs and alert me when they go on point, if we are in heavy brush and I can't see them.
Any other upland hunters here?

Roger give us a break.....those dogs will never go into dense brush....with stickers.... PJ would teach em better that that....
