Garmin plotters/sounders

good soggy morning here in the PNW
I am getting ready to install a Garmin 3010C Plotter in the new to us Encounter. (a 93 22 Cruiser) I am thinking about adding a sounder module to it and was hoping someone here is using this set up and could answer some questions. I am looking at the GSD22 digital sounder module.
there is not much info on the attributes of this sounder.
does it act as a fishfinder and if so how is the definition on bottom. (always looking for those pesky elusive spot shrimps)
on the Sensei I have a stand alone Garmin 140 blue sounder/fishfinder and I can find clouds of shrimp on the bottom with it.

Roger , it will be way better than the Garmin 140. Use a 50/200 airmar transducer and you will have a 500 watt machine with a fairly high res screen.
The black box systems are very good . That one has been around . The newer ones are very high power .The GSD 24 is up to 2000 watts and the GSD 26 is 3000 watts RMS. They can poach the shrimp on the way up.

after reading a few reviews I would say that the key is having a transducer that will allow you to use the full power of the unit. You basic p66 is not going to allow you to get the most out of this unit.

As I recall (and it's been awhile) the 140 unit has 200 watts output, so going to the black box and its 500 watt output will be a large increase in performance in just output power. Coupled with the more advanced sounder software, I think you'll see a an improvement over what you have.
