Ok, my friends Garmin GPS for his car just stopped working. We tried different power cable and no. So, we figured no warranty ..it is broke, no loss...let's opener her up and see what we see. Now what?
Battery checks out good.

When that kind of stuff happens to me, I usually give the thing a good shake.
If batteries are present, I remove and rotate them replacing as needed.
Then retry.
If still NG, and it's old, I give it my heel, spin on it and walk away.
After that, I usually feel much better.

Aye.

remove battery and check votage, if none is present check contin uity

then insert batttery and charger cable and check voltage at battery

It could the battery or charging cable among other things

I would look for a fuse or resettable breaker which may or not be present

Look at circuit board for dark spots indicating high heat and permanent damage

Auto gps are losing market share. Today I saw a nice Garmin nuvi with lifetime maps for$35 on meritline

I still have old TomTom witha new battery I installed but I really like Wazw on the cell phone

Could the unit actually be turning on, but the LCD screen be off/broken/disconnected?

I had a similar issue with a video baby monitor. The copper flex connector for the LCD display had come disconnected from the circuit board.
