Garmin Chartplotter Question

Can someone who owns a newer version of Garmin like the 4210/4212 tell me if Garmin now has the ability to overlay the radar screen on the chart. I moved to a Raymarine C80 and Raymarine radar a few years ago in order to get that feature.

I am now in the market for electronics for the new boat. I like Garmin's user interface better, but I'm used to the radar overlayed onto the charts.

If Garmin doesn't do this, do some of the other brands like Lowrance or Northstar have this feature?

We installed a Garmin 4210 last year and it does have the RADAR overlay feature. So far we are pleased with the unit. The preloaded coastal charts are good and include tide data as well as the Columbia River. The inland areas such as Lake Chelan are only satellite photos. I guess that's why they sell a lakes and rivers chip.

Hi Lyle,

The MARCIA JANE has the Garmin 5212 Chartplotter. Yes, it does have the radar overlay feature. I'm really pleased with the unit! One of the best things about the Garmin is the U.S. based support. When you call, you get an English speaking person in Kansas.

The only problem so far is a loose power cord that cuts out when coming hard off of a swell. I've ordered a new one to hopefully solve that problem.

I've used other brands and love the features, as well as the easy user logic of the Garmin.

Good luck with your choice.

THe Garmins do the radar overlay.

An additional "heads up", Garmin has a free update for the 4000 & 5000 series on their website.
