My 22 came with a Garmin 2006c, but I don't have any chart cards for it, and they are no longer sold new by Garmin :cry This unit uses the "Garmin Bluechart Datacards."

The same type of card works in the following Garmin units: GPSMAPs 172, 172C, 178, 178C, 182, 182C, 188, 188C, 2006, 2006C, 2010, and 2010C

Here is what they look like:

This summer I would like to do some cruising in the Pacific Northwest, so the cards I am immediately interested in are these (some cover more area than others, so there is some redundancy):

Olympia to Skagway - MUS602X
Puget Sound to Port Hardy - MCA500L
Inside Passage - MCA001R
Hecate Strait South - MCA010R
Seattle Northwest - MUS023R

If anyone has any of these that they would like to sell, I'm interested - feel free to respond in this thread or to contact me via PM.

On the other hand, the reason I posted in "General Chat" instead of simply the "Wanted" classifieds sub-forum, is because I figured that if I'm out here hoping I can extend the life of my older Garmin by finding chart cards for the various areas I'm interested in cruising, maybe other Brats are as well? Maybe we could start some sort of exchange (either one-time or a "permanent" thread)?

Right now I don't have any chart cards to start an exchange with, but if I find any to buy now, I would be happy to loan them out or exchange them in future. I would also be interested in borrowing or "renting" one or more now instead of buying, depending on what any of you might have available.

(I'd also like to attend the Lake Powell gathering in September; I'm not even sure if there is a Garmin datacard for that area though.)

Thanks to any of you who might rummage in a drawer to see if you have any of these :thup

At one point, we had a thread about swap/sale of data chips. Can't find it right now but I bet SeaWolf Joe can...

You know, I did search a find a few threads mentioning them; but for some reason (that I can't remember now specifically) I thought it might be better to start a new/current thread for a sale/exchange/lending library.

If I made the wrong choice then mods, please just let me know -and/or move or combine this thread.

Thanks,

I would suggest you do one of two things if your search for the older data cards does not pan out. Spring for a new IPAD and join up for free to Active Captain and read about how wonderful the IPAD's are for navigating. The app's allow you to access maps cheaply along with the ability to get radar weather which might be of interest up in that neck of the woods. Active Captain has a couple newsletter which spelll out why having an IPAD on board is a great idea.
The second option is to get a laptop with some sort of wifi and the nav software from Rosepoint Marine called Coastal Explorer. In the planning mode courses can be laid out quickly and it is interfaced with Active Captain so if data is available for that area you can get info provided by boaters. You can get up to date weather if you have an internet connection. You can do reviews and post hazzards as you encounter them. It has a built in private and public blog that allows for pictures to be a part of your posts along with your reports. Map data is up dated for free and the US coastal maps are included with what used to be a 400. dollar price. Rosepoint's customer service is superb. I have used it for a couple of years and really like the way it functions. You can use a GPS puck that just plugs into the laptop's USB and have a completely separate large screen nav device at a fraction of the cost. Just my 2 cents

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm pretty sure that I will purchase an iPad and run navigation app(s) on it - seems like a good way to go. That said, I think I would still like to have a chartplotter at the helm.

If I can find a reasonable way to obtain (buy, borrow) the data cards I need for the 2006c, then I'll run it; if I can't, then I may "have" to go to a more modern unit.

I'm hoping that - at least for this summer - I can run the 2006c.

Also these come up on E bay fairly often.

I have been checking out Craigslist and eBay. It seems that one can get many of the datacards on eBay, and a few on CL - so that's good. However, for a person who may plan to cruise a variety of areas, it could begin to approach the cost of a new chartplotter (with charts pre-loaded). I was hoping that if there were others here "in the same boat" (say, who maybe had one card but wanted to cruise additional areas requiring different cards), we could perhaps have an exchange. Kind of like the "old days" of trading paper charts when cruising from one area to another.

Or if there were Brats who'd moved on to new plotters, and who perhaps had some of the old cards gathering dust, maybe they'd be interested in selling them.
