Garmin 740 transducer question

I have boat in a slip at Cayuga finger lake since beginning of season .I Live two hours away,took trailer home. Cant believe how scummy hull is. I thought freshwater would not get boat hull that slimmy green. So my question is would this build up cause a transducer to stop reading bottom depths? It was reading 410ft in 12ft of water. Im going to jump in and try cleaning it this weekend with magic eraser or something. I guess its a thru hull transducer. What would be trouble shooting ideas if cleaning doesn't work? Just bought a downrigger and want to get this working so I can fish. Thanks for ideas. Hope a pressure washer will clean hull at end of season.
 
Scum and slime are not unusual in fresh water - many people do bottom paint if keeping their boats in a slip for that reason. VC-17 is a popular paint on the Great Lakes; it's easy to apply and quite smooth (although I'm not suggesting it necessarily in your case, and it does have downsides). The good thing is that the slime does usually wash off reasonably easily (as opposed to salt water things like barnacles that grip tenaciously).
 
Thanks plan to scrub it this week,hope that works. Im thinking it must be from the slime,because it worked good until this buildup. Im surprised at the amount of it . The marina water was all cloudy cant see down in the water at all, lots of rain. When first docked the boat a couple months ago it was nice and clear,you could see the fish swimming all around the docks.There are signs posted around marina,they plan to spray for hydrilla ,and you wont be able to use marina for 48 hours. If your boat can get this scummy in freshwater,I can see the need for bottom paint in the saltwater.
