Fuel Tax Refund Info for Boaters

Around these parts you get the $.03 a gallon discount with the Safeway card and if at your last visit in the grocery store you spent more than $50. you get $.06 a gallon discount on your next fuel visit.

And to further hijack this thread...here's a little trick with Safeway fuel that I've verified to work at two different locations. Discovered it completely by accident.

If you have a 6 cent discount coming because of a recent $50+ grocery purchase, and you want to fill up more than one vehicle, the discount is active until the first pump is turned OFF. So, enter your code and start fueling, then have your spouse/neighbor/friend fill up another vehicle at another pump at the same time (also using your code.) You'll all get the discount, along with anyone else who uses your code prior to the first pump being turned OFF.

And...to ensure you don't get your discounted fuel purchase cut off at $75 (or whatever the card limit is), punch the "pay inside" button or take your card inside. Then, you can fuel up that mondo diesel truck or RV and get the discount on the entire tank.

Can I hear an "Amen", cheap brothers and sisters???

Thanks for the info Dave! I didn't see on the WA state site where there was a specific frequency stated, just the 13 mo rule, so I guess you can submit as often as you like as long as you don't overlap!

Your statement above is correct. I usually wait until I've got several months (but not over 13 months). (Not as much "paperwork" that way).

I just wanted to bring this thread to the attention of CA boaters.

Sea Wolf/Joe is correct for inland waterways but there is a caveat for ocean beyond the 3 mile limit.....

My mail to them:
Per your website, I understand that if boat is travelling beyond the 3 mile shore limit, then this qualifies for a gasoline tax refund. However, there is one thing I am not clear:

What if the gasoline was used to propel a boat within the San Francisco Bay and not outside the 3 mile limit or if you used the boat and cruised up and down the Sacramento River? Am I entitled to a gas tax refund?

Their response:
We only refund the gas tax on gasoline used outside the 3 mile limit. The gas tax generated from gasoline used in waterways goes into the Small Craft Harbor Fund. In 1965 the State Legislature amended the Revenue and Taxation Code to eliminate refunds for gasoline used in waterways other than outside the 3 mile limit.

So the bext question, is........................

Just how do you document the fact that you were using your boat outside the three mile limit, take photos or videos of your GPS?

Don't tell me someone or somewhere in America the Honor System is still practiced and believed in? It's been quite a ride from Tricky Dick to
Bernie M!

Is documentation even required?

I wonder how many folks actually apply for the refunds?

Joe. :teeth :thup
