Couldn't figure out why my images were not uploading and figured it must be their origianl .jpg size (all over 3.5MB). Gallery probably has a limit on its ability to resize/compress intial image uploads. If you want an absolutely free (no gimmicks) fast image compressor - grab this one:

Nice. I just loaded it up. Plays well on x64 Vista. More granularity in the compression and addt'l feature selections.Thanks Brent.

We all have our favorites of course.

Mine is Faststone Image Viewer. I found a link to it at Answers that work. It's the home of my all time favorite tuneup software, TUT. What I like about Faststone is it's free for home users, has everything I need and the slideshow, resizing, and batch capability is about as easy as one can get.
