For All the Old Salts...

Last I knew, USS Constitution was still listed in JANES as it is a commissioned war ship.

Saturday I attended the ceremony at USS Constitution for the issue of the new stamp picturing USS Constitution in commemoration of the War of 1812. The ceremony was well done (i.e. less politics than usual). The stamp is a reproduction of a painting of "Old Ironsides" and looks nice. All ship on stamp collectors will appreciate it.

I was aboard her on several school trip back in the 70's . She was in Baltimore then and in bad shape. I hope they don't break any thing.

Tom, are you sure that wasn't the Constellation? She's a sister ship. To my knowledge, Constitution has been in Boston a long time. She was there in the early 70s when I rode a couple of the turnarounds.

CONSTELLATION is no longer active but was donated as a museum ship to Baltimore in 1955 when she was almost 101 years old.

CONSTITUTION is still an active Commissioned Ship. She is almost 215 years old! Even older than Dusty and Seawolf Joe..

Thus endeth the Naval History Lesson for today!

I remember my first tour back in the early 60's and was amazed at how low the overhead was below decks. I think the average height then was abt 4' 10". At 6'2" I had to walk crouched over so as to not bang my head. My how us folks have grown out & up since the early 1800s.

If you ever get to the Boston area this is must see as well as the Boston Harbor island tours and Liberty trail.
