Flushing the engine will in the water

Hello All:

I keep my 22 in the water all season (May to November) @ the Jersey Shore. Last year I kept the brass device used to rinse the engine screwed in - also fitted it with a screw in cap to keep a seal. After each use attached the hose to it and the engine received a good rinse; however at the end of the year I could not get the device to un-screw even though I greased it well.

This year I did not put it back in (the "yard" was able to remove the rinsing device) Now I am back to the ear muffs - If I try to unscrew the rinse screw and insert the nozzle after each use one or the other of both will fall into the drink -

How have you folks solved this?

Hi Ken:
You don't say what your engine is, but I have a Suzuki 140 on my Trophy and I rinse after every use - or at least at the end of our stay. Ya, I know, no CD yet. I, too, have worried about the plug or garden device falling into the water. I just have a backup for each - and try to be careful when I flush. Not much help, but short of putting up a net, things will fall into the water.

Ear muffs work fine under water. Tilt motor up, install, tilt down without moving muffs and run as usual, turn off motor, tilt up, remove.

I used to do it that way to keep the neighbors happy after late night flounder gigging or shrimping.
