Florida trip bad ending

Very sorry to hear,dont let them win, keep on getting out there with your dog and boat,like you said maybee closer to home. One time myself and a friend drove in a conversion van set out for Texas to work after trade school. Pulled into a holiday Inn ,for good nights rest, and in morning van was broken into ,tools ,cameras ,hunting equipment all stolen. Plus it was my birthday,cops said they target out of state plates. Really stinks,thank goodness there are alot of good people out there also.

Most neighnbors will watch over residences

My Florida friend has been known to approach "visitors " after hurricane charley with a shotgun

Dear Landlocked- It's tough what you've gone through, are going through, but, with some effort, you'll get through it. You're just as much a participant in a full life now as you were then. Sad to hear of what occurred to your place in Florida and how it ruined what had been planned to be a great vacation. It is unfortunate how a few folks in today's society reek havoc on the rest of us. In looking at the "thread" that you just posted on the C-Brat Site entitled "3 Men on a Catamaran Meet Huge Storms", it is obvious that you have looked at stories of others who encounter tragedy and challenges perhaps greater that your own. These types of stories is what reminds us that perhaps things are still good in our own lives.
My career as Paramedic/Firefighter, constantly reminded me (even in tough times of my own) of how insignificant my problems were as compared to the many folks that my fellow firefighters and I encountered daily. I always felt that I was living the "dream job" as I was being paid to enjoy the challenges of my work and help others in need, which to me was extremely self-gratifying. After my retirement, I still had those needs so re-instated as a volunteer fireman so I could continue enjoying these experiences.
As others have said, don't let unfortunate circumstances ruin your day, keep planning more happy adventures. :thup
 
For several of our disabled dogs we have made either a platform or sling to allow them to get ashore. The Garheur davit works well in the C Dory-- One way is to use a piece of 1/2" plywood the same foot print as the dog lying down. Pad this, then cover with Sunbrella, and monel staples on the bottom. Make webbing steps which cross cross across the bottom about about 2 feet above the platform. Then take another pice of sunbrella about a foot wide, stable on the bottom, tack to the webbing, and leave an overlap on one end (double flaps, but not attached at the very ends. Us velcro to attach when the dog is in the sling. The dog walks in, lies down, and then you bring the flaps around the entrance so the dog cannot fall out. Hoist over the stern, and deposit the dog on shore. Then the dog gets up, goes about his business, and comes back to the sling. Sort of like a bosan's chair for the dog--you will understand bing an old sailor!

Wow a 208' sailing vessel-you have had some real adventures. We all know how hard it is! Hug Teddy for all of us!

Thanks again C-Brats. What a great family I wasn't born into, LOL.
After I sat down last night and drank a few beers I realized how blessed I am. I have a safe home with a roof over my head, food water. I could have been born in a 3rd world nation and be picking through a garbage dump for food.
It was just a ruined vacation and a little dream that went pop.
I take what I do have so much for granted.
I can only imagine the poor people in the inner cities who have to worry about get shot in a drive by shooting while going for groceries.
I have my C-dory and will be back on the water real soon, Teddy and all.
Long live the C-Brat Sailor Family, You seem to know what matters in life.
