Flat based Radar Mount -vs- curve in roof

I purchased a SeaView PMA-100

(just like http://www.c-brats.com/modules.php?set_ ... _photo.php).

The base of the Mast is 10" x 10" and is flat. The roof on our CD22 has a slight curve down the middle.

Question:

Has anyone installed a flat radar mount base in the middle of the CD22 roof? If so, did the radar mount "pull down" flat? Or did you need to shim up the sides?

Thanks for your help.

I would build a flat platform on the roof as I did for the air conditioner on the Tom Cat. I have used round flanges about 6" in diameter directly on the roof. These flanges are somewhat flexiable and confirm to the roof.

Bob -- question on the round flanges:

-- I'm not sure I understand what the round flanges are -- could you further explain?

Thanks.

Not on a 22, but I did so on my 19 which has the same cabin top curve - you can see the mount in this pic.

I don't recall the exact base size, but it was fairly close to 10" x 10". On mine, there was no need to do anything special - the base wobbled just a hair when set in place, which was easily addressed by placing a stainless washer between the plate and the cabin top at each corner. The curve in the cabin top is pretty minor.

After snugging up the base, I taped off the base/cabin top leaving about 1/4" exposed, and laid down a thin bead of white sealant in the gap.

Looked great, and was solid as a rock.

The radar mounts which I build use 4" PVC pipe, and PVC water closet (toilet) flanges top and bottom. The top is boated to a piece of Starboard, and the bottom is thru bolted thru the cabin top. The outer part of the flange may be slightly more than 6"--it is put in with the bolts on the bias (at 45 degrees to fore and aft). Thus the part which is bolted is not far apart--about 6". The air conditioner, was a 14" square cut out, with a 2" flange, built around the outside.
