Fishing Rod Holder Recommendation

My wife and I just started doing a little fishing this Spring. We are not very knowledgeable about fishing equipment, so I am looking for a recommendation for fishing rod holders. I would like to be able to hold 2 or 3 rods in holders mounted to the aft starboard side of my cooler holder. I can add another board to it if necessary (see picture below). I would like the type where a relatively small fitting is mounted permanently, and then the rod holder slides into the fitting. That way I could remove them when they are not being used. Also, the purpose would be rod storage, not trolling. I know there are different types, so I am hoping someone can recommend something suitable. Thanks.

I would highly recommend children. I personally use the Grand model whenever they are available.

If it's for storage only, you could easily fashion something out of properly sized PVC attached to a board that can be easily attached/detached from the cooler mount.

However, if you are going to troll, go with Folbe holders. I troll often, and when I do, I prefer Folbe. I might possibly be the most interesting fisherman in the world. Catch fish, my friends. 8)

There are a lot of different type of rod holders. One question is if you want to mount other items in the rod holders? Scotty makes a number of bases that you can put rod holders in, as well as barbecue holders, and other items. Agree on the PVC pipe.

I have used the Sea Fit removable SS rod holders on the C Dory. There is a mounting plate, with a rod holder which slips in. The plate is flush to the gunnel cabin side etc.

In our fishing CC Cat we have two types of rod holders--there are 6 on the back of the seat--welded onto the aluminum tubing (you can find similar types which clamp on any size of tubing. West Marine and C E Smith make these type (as well as other companies). Then there the thru the gunnel type, Perko is the most common manufacture.

A lot depends on what angle you want, what size rod and what size fish you are going for. We also have brackets which fit the thru the deck/gunnel type that allow the rod to go straight out from the boat to the side. This gives you a lure which is clear of the wake.

good to hear about the folbes. we just picked up a set this weekend. I have forever just been using the ones on the scottys, but the wife has a hard time reaching out that far and clearing especially when a good king is on. have not decided but most likely will mount on on the gunnel side before both hatches.

As for rod holders we went with a rocket launcher type. for us we would rather have the rods up and out of the way. no worries on having to fight around them while fishing pics should be in album
