Fishing Puget Sound

sorry c fisher but i work at cadman and herd that some one at one of the other plants just got a red 19ft angler. i will have to trackhim down and see if he knews of the site.

Didn't make it out today, bad weather and to much to do around the house. I will be out for sure on Sunday. Weather looks much better, fog in the morning (no wind) and some sun in the afternoon. Hope the fish are still out there. Please post if you got anything today. Good Luck!

Hi, Spent all day Saturday on the Sound. One of the only fools out there its seems. Picked up on 9 lb. Silver off of West Point at 8:00 AM, at around noon, made the long rough crossing over to Jeff Head. Caught and released on about 4 lbs. Picked up several shakers throughout the day and finally limped back to Manchester around 3:00 PM.

Nasty day on the water but the boat performed very well.

Alisa and I fished all day Sunday, nice day on the water. I caught a 12lb Hooknose in the morning around 9:00AM on Possession Bar on the east side in the horseshoe hole.

What a difference a week makes.

Fished from about 1:00 to dusk on Saturday and caught one lousy chum. We fished west point for about three hours, then north of Shilshole for about an hour and a half. Didn't see any fish on the fish finder at west point, but saw a lot south of Shilshole. Man, it was lumpy out there. Tried calling you guys on 16 and 68, but didn't hear anything back.

Caught one 9 lb silver on Sunday. Fished north of Shilshole all the way up to the oil dock. There again, I saw a lot of fish on my fish finder, just couldn't get them to bite.

The guys at the locks said that they have been cruising through there en-masse. I saw thousands swimming around in the ship canal. I'd say that that rain last week got them into a spawning mood, and they are more interested in heading upstream than the succulent offerings we have been providing.

The wife and I leave on Thursday for a week and a half in Playa Del Carmen, looks like silver season is done for me. :( I am going to dive, and do some spear fishing down there though. The downside is that I will be missing the razor clam opening down in Longbeach.

Oh well. I guess there's always winter kings, and duck hunting isn't too far off.

Hey Ross, If you were calling on 16/68 on Saturday, I've got real problems with my 25 mile radio/antenna combo. I was out there getting my kidneys pounded all day Saturday. I need to do a check.

You must have gotten your wood stacked.

Playa? Good on you. I was in Cozumel in March and spent one day sipping cool drinks on the beach in Playa. Wonderful place. I can't wait to go back - maybe after the holidays. Have a great time.

If the water is flat on Saturday next, I'm going to run all the way up to Possession and give that one last try before Blackmouth begins.

Cheers,

Dan

Yeah I'm looking forward to a little R&R.

I'm not sure that run is worth the effort. My uncle only caught one there on Sunday. The same guy caught eight the weekend before. I think if I were going to make an effort to catch fish I'd go here....

Although that info is a little dated.

I'd check out the creel counts here before you burn too much gas...

Who knows what the best bet is. Too bad you can't dig razor clams from a C-Dory. If you haven't dug razors before it's fun, and they are tasty.

I took C-Run out to fly fish for cutthroats on Tues in the Tacoma Narrows. Not much luck, but about the time I was giving up, along came a "pod" of resident silvers. What fun. These guys are much bigger than at this time last year, and very scrappy. They give a five-weight a work out. The 19 works well for this kind of fishing. Love it. Robbi

Robbi,

Tell me more about this cut fishery... I'm in Port Orchard and am not familiar. Is this a seasonal thing? Have you much success typically? Fishing the banks?

Do tell.

Cheers,

Dan

I'll do anything to keep the most important thread at the top...

I fished Jeff Head on Sunday - sun up till 1:00. Shaker after shaker after shaker. Stopped using herring after a while as pulling the downriggers to rid myself of a shaker become too much work.

Snagged a large dogfish in the dorsal which gave us much excitement till we realized what we had.

No decent fish.

Dan

Hi Dan, Here is a link to a site that gives some information about cutts and the Port Orchard area. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/features/eotg/58eotg.html

Cutthroat fishing is all catch and release now. (you can keep hatchery cutts, but you probably will not see any in Puget Sound) The last cutt I had strike, was in about 4 inches of water! I was casting from the boat towards shore. They say, if you can't see the bottom, you won't catch any fish.

Hey Dan -

It's time for Blackmouth! Linda & I fished up at Double Bluff today - yea, a bunch of shakers but we did haul in a small (23 in) and one just too small (21 ) to keep. Dinner's cookin, so I gotta run!

We were fishin hoochies at 100 ft, trying to scrape the bottom, but caught fish at 70 ft (30 ft above)

We had a good day out on the water today. Starcraft Tom and I took the Sensei out for a day of fishing for Blackmouth. This was Toms first time ever in a C-Dory and if he wasn't bit before he has got the itch big time now....lol....
We launched in Everett and cruised over to Whidbey Island side up North to Baby Island where we dropped the lines in the water. Within 15 minutes we had a hit and Tom brought in a nice 8 lb blackmouth. the rest of the day was a good boat ride. a few small shakers and that was it.

Here is a pic of our success.

Oh Roger!

We've been trying for days, and have only brought one BM home. Lots of shakers and beautiful days on the water, but alas, no fish.

So what did you use to catch 'em?

And yea....next time - let me know when you're going and we'll meet ya!

I had a great time fishing with roger. great guy to talk to while the fish are deciding to bit or not. The first and only keeper was about 8 lbs according to the fish and game gal at the dock. she weighed 15 fish for 28 boats sunday. Thats the first and last day of black mouth for me this year. oh we got approved by honda credit to day so very soon.....

Thanks - Lookin forward to another Brat in our local area for fishin...

I spent 4 hours at Point No Point yesterday - caught bunches of shakers 'till I switched to plugs - then caught a couple BM just below (21 inch). Great day in the rain - in a warm, heated C-Dory. What a Boat! I love it!

Mac

I've been pulling these plugs a bunch of times at Possession, and this was the first day I tried PNP - and the first time anything took 'em. Was using a Sliver Horde 5 in - one I left with the ttreble hooks (white pearl) had the best luck. Another (glow) I put 4/0 single hooks - that caught only shakers. Scraping the bottom - at 100 ft, trolling slow.....

Got out today to try for some winter black mouth. Winds didn't seem too bad when I left Everett but it was pretty ugly. Fished for about 3 hours and gave up. Just too much work to keep the boat on line for trolling and too much work to keep the balance in the cockpit.

Only a few others fool enough to try to fish today. Not surprisingly - one of the other sets of fools was also in a CD 22. The new owner of Pegasus. Ran into him (Tim I think) at the Everett Marina. Seems like a nice guy and he's enjoying the boat. Might try again tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be better.
