First tow!

Just another day for many of you, but we just completed trailering our new-to-us CD22 from North Carolina to Pennsylvania. Thanks to all the information on this site, and a great product, the 600-mile trip went great (almost!). Now we're hoping to get enough experience on some of the local lakes to have the courage to attend the Chesapeake gathering in June. The only issue was that the bracket holding up the Yamaha 100 bent a little on the ride home. It has to be trailered in the up position for clearance. I've tried to understand the all the posts regarding the best way to support the motor, and think a wooden dowel or 2x4 support will provide support without bending the tab. Does that sound OK?

Congrats!

We use a hardwood dowel pinched between the mount when trailering...works great. I keep it in place with a small cord.

What lakes are you going to be in? I grew up in PA...McKean County.

You might want to consider carrying some spare trailer parts. Light bulbs, bearings/races, seals, grease gun/grease, cotter pins and the tools to replace them. These things seem to fail on Sundays or other times when parts are unavailable. Besides, leaving your package on the roadside while you run off for replacements(if you can find them) is risky.
Oh, and be sure that your jack will actually lift your trailer sufficiently. You may find that it's fine for your tow vehicle but incapable of raising the trailer high enough.

I have used both the transom saver type, a wooden piece and just bringng the engines up enough to clear the bottom of the trailer (and the road).

My spares, include an extra wheel and tire (hub and bearing on the Tom cat). Set of bearings for all hubs, extra grease, lug wrench and cheater bar. air Compressor. I carried a sissor jack for the C Dory22; for the 25 and Tom Cat I carry a 4 ton floor jack and a 6 ton bottle jack. If you have leaf springs, consider extra leafs, shackles and bolts. I also carry extra brake fluid. Extra bulbs for the lights are also in the kit.

Thanks for the suggestions. The toolbox in the truck will have a few additions before the next trip!
Good to hear from another Pennsylvanian. We're in Johnstown, western PA, and Lake Raystown is the closest lake for practice before returning to North Carolina. We'll have many questions.
