WOW, That is big. I hope nobody was injured. Also, There are several C-Dorys in the Portland area, hope they are OK too.

Spoke to a Portland CBRAT this evening, his boat is OK. He said there were several Ranger Tugs stored at the Sundance facility.

There were no people injured, as it was a dry stack, climate control facility, but not likely any of the boats will be repairable.

I'm curious. Is this the largest marina fire on record, or at least on the West coast? In recent history?

350 boats, and about $24 Million. That is pretty big.

Here is an interesting article on what causes boat fires.

Such terrible events are extremely sad to read about. On the Tugnuts site I see both a Ranger 25 and a Cutwater 28 were destroyed in the fire as Harvey mentioned but I have not heard about any C-Dory's suffering a similar fate.

Our Ranger 27 "Echo" was at the Sundance Marina facility when we purchased it last spring. At the time we did not have a vehicle capable of pulling the R27 home (although a couple of wonderful folks - including Roger & Janet Clark the former owners of Dreamer - did offer to tow it northwards for us) nor was our driveway wide enough to bring it into our property. So it was not until a few months later when we towed Echo northwards to the big city of Quilcene while we kept it at Sundance in the meantime.

We even considered the idea of storing the boat back there again inside the facility on the trailer this winter to take advantage of the covered and climate controlled environment but luckily decided against it.

Thankfully no lives were lost in the fire.

Take care,
Dan, Tanya, & Hannah on Echo

Hey Dan,

Good to see you here. WOW, dodged a real bullet there. Glad that worked out. Sure have not heard much about that fire, but I still have to believe it is the largest marina fire in recent times. Maybe it does not compare to the losses on the right coast due to sever weather (hurricanes, or tornadoes), but for a just plain fire, it has to rate right up there.

Glad no one was hurt or life lost.

The marina advised their tenants to keep gas tanks full to reduce condensation. There were about 350 boats in the building, all under 30'. The fire burned for two days. 26 fire stations responded. Two fire boats pumped water out of the Columbia directly to the pumper trucks because the effort had used up all the water on Hayden Island (location of the marina).
