Fire Extinguisher Location

Where do you mount your fire extinguishers and why?
I'm giving up on carrying our 5 pounder loose. This is legal but the thing is there is nowhere to permanently mount it in our 22' Cruiser without it being in the way. We're going to get a couple 2 1/2 pounders and mount them properly.
I'm thinking about putting one or both of them on the side of the rear dinette seat across from the galley.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thank's
Steve

Steve:

My orginal mount was in front of the Captains seat (delaer installed) right leg. But it did not allow me to open the small compartment at the footrest. I moved and mounted the fire extinquiser on the instide wall in the cabin just above the door. I used a 1x4 piece of oak, stained it to match the other "woodwork", and used the mounting screws that hold the header above the door. It is secure, accessable, visable, and mid cabin. You won't hit your head on it and out of the way from hitting your knees.
If you go to the Swee Pea album, page two, you will see what I did. It works for me.

There is a thread for other ideas. http://www.c-brats.com/viewtopic.php?t=1474

In my album you can see my solution. Inside the door frame (handy) using the window frame screws to hold the bracket. I did the same with the speakers.

I've mounted two; one vertically high on the head/shower wall, adjacent to the galley and the other is horizontally mounted above the main bulkhead door. Both are out of the way, yet easily seen and accessed if, god forbid, they are needed. Plus having them permanantly mounted means you know EXACTLY where they are, ALL THE TIME, in that stressful time.

I have one attached to the underside of the shelf just forward of the shifter at my right knee when at the helm. The other is mounted at shoulder level on the inside of the door as you leave the cabin.
It is not required that they be mounted, but it is a good idea so that you can always find them if and god forbid they are needed.

On Hayesie Daze, we have one mounted under the galley, one mounted under the rear dinette seat and one mounted in the v-berth. Other locations seem standard but I feel having one in the v-berth is important in the event something happens with the kerosene for the Wallas or an electrical issue with the inverter or charger, just like at home I keep some in the bedrooms for the same reason. Maybe a bit paranoid but hey.

It is best to have two fire extinguishers, which are separated. We like one by the door, and the other by the helm--both are handy to the galley. The one by the door near the engine area. Perhaps, near the engine itself is another good option, if you have an area which is protected.

We have two, one mounted at the helm by my right knee and a second mounted horizontally over the cabin door. I have been debating about whether to mount a third inside the Vee berth. I was careful to not put either extinguisher too near the galley as an extinguisher enveloped in flames is hard to get to.
