Finally back to the water this weekend!

I remember thinking of teasing the folks that were "winterizing" their boats back in the fall, thinking..."hah!...I'm gonna use mine more this winter than I did in the summer!"...but alas, she has sat since october!
Pulled her out and cleaned her up this week, now she rests on the trailer behind the truck, waiting for morning when we will head to the local lake.
The 45's fired right up this evening, although the water flow indicator ports needed the insect clogs cleared. The cabin got a good cleaning, the new Travasak bedding placed in the berth, and a general tidy up...now she's ready!
We plan a coastal SC trip in June or July...perhaps in the Charleston area, which will hopefully include a trip up the Great Pee Dee from Georgetown.
 
Thats great. We use ours all winter most years but this year it sat from Dec to May. getting ready for this three day weekend now. Leave tomorrow afternoon late for the San Juans.

I have got ours out and cleaned her up yesterday, we did use her this winter we carried he with us to Fl for 3 months.
I am ready form some local water in NC, we though about going to Oriental Nc for a few days were the C-brat cruising was at.
Will decide on something in a few days

We'll be at Birch Bay Saturday and a good part of Sunday - my "honey dew" list includes some work in the bathroom (ugh). But Sunday afternoon, done or not, we head down to Hilton Harbor and Curt will sling Daydream in, and off we go for at least one night and as much of Monday as I can finagle! If the stars are in alignment, I might have to see if we can come back early early Tuesday morning and get one more night out!
 
Ah that time of year when the C-Dory's return to the water in full force!

The Admiral and I are planning our first overnight of the season. We plan to head up to Newburyport MA for an overnight if we can find an available slip. Otherwise we will spend the night in a protected cove at an island.

I posted last week about my first cruise to Newburyport. It was a great opportunity to scope out the scene before returning with the lady.
 
I keep my boat in uncovered dry storage and over the winter try to keep an eye on her so the batteries stay charged, water isn't leaking into the cabin, etc. Even doing all that, the real test is dropping her in the water and seeing what the motor and electronics do. One of my GPS units had moisture in the connection and quit working. A little Boeshield and she was working again.

While I was waiting to put my boat in the water, the forklift operator started to put an Arima into the water at the request of the owner who wasn't at the marina yet. As he lowered the boat down to the water he looked inside the cockpit and saw nothing but water. The owner had left the plug in the boat and we had some torrential rains. There was so much water in the boat that the forklift operator feared that the bilge pump must have drained the battery and there was no safe way to operate the boat, so he lifted the boat back up and removed the drain plug. I kid you not, 30 minutes later water was still flowing out of the boat shooting out 3+ feet from the plug at first before settling down to about a foot horizontal before falling.

Here's the amazing part. After 35-40 minutes, the owner replaced the plug and asked to have the boat put into the water. He turned the key and it started right up. I'm guessing it HAD no bilge pump.

Finally the nice weather has arrived in the PNW. I went up to Friday Harbor for lunch last Saturday and will be bringing the Whaler down to Lake Washington from Anacortes tomorrow. I'll keep an eye out for any C-Dory's on the water. BTW, anyone know who owns a blue 22 moored at Lakewood Moorage on Lake Washington? I'll be 3 slips down this summer...
 
Got the Tom Cat in her slip at Skyline but won't be able to enjoy her for the next couple of weeks as I am off Monday to SLC and Denver to see two of my kids, then to Santa Fe to visit a friend who has cancer, then back up to SLC to pick up the 22 and come home.

Hey Jim!
We had thought about putting in at Oriental, and heading south, it's still a possibility. Jo really liked the area when we were there for the gathering.
We really need to figure out how far we can go (while in no hurry) doing a round trip in seven days.
We have friends that have offered to take our truck and trailer from wherever we put in, to a southern location within a reasonable driving distance from Charleston.
We also have another friend that has a dock and cabin on the Brickhouse Plantation property on Steamboat Creek near Beaufort, SC....we hope to stay there one night.
I'd really like to take Jo to Capers Island. I have done a few kayak camping trips there...and I love it!
Our back-up plan (just in case there's bad weather on the coast) is to hit the Cumberland River.

I don't think you borrowed any from me. I still have some that was with the boat when we bought it.

Now I have a clogged water indicator on the port engine. The little plastic piece was clogged when I tested at home, now it seems that the clog is either in the short hose, or just above it.
The impeller is working (new last year) cuz the engine didn't run hot at all yesterday, but I'm just getting a trickle of flow at the indicator.

Pat...I think what you borrowed last year was our 25' cruiser...you can bring that back anytime.....LOL!

Larry if you are heading south from Oriental I made that trip last year from Southport to Oriental and back. One of the nicest stops along the way is in Surf City at Beach House Marina 910-328-2628. It's a good days run from Oriental and really a nice stop with restaurants, beach, grocery store, marine supplies, fishing pier all within three blocks of the marina. The marina is small so it's best to call ahead to insure they have room 910-328-2628. I think it was around $25 per night including water and electric. Crossing the mouth of the Cape Fear can be pretty rough with any wind. Have a nice trip.
