Hi all,
It's time to buy a new flashlight as the last old expensive one has quit. It was pretty good but 9 AA batteries every season and $70 seems like it should have lasted forever. Does anyone have a recommendation for a flashlight they love? Looking for a large primary light for picking out buoys or harbor entrances.

On the boat I usually use the West 3000 spotlight--very similar to the West product ref above.


If you truly want the best flashlight, then I suggest the "Marine Beam".. This shoots a 4* beam upon to over 1/4 mile

My pocket EDC is a Nitecore MT 10 C. It has beacon red, low red, low white (about 2 lumen) and then several bright steps up to 920 lumen.

I also carry a Ryobi fan, inflator, both high and low pressure, and the Ryobi one spotlight. This way, I carry two rechargeable batteries, which have tulip functions (including the impact wrench I use to remove lug nuts on the trailer.

Then a head lamp, I want red and several brightness flood and spot. So I have several different Ever Ready lights. Nothing expensive, but the one I have been using is the one with green band, red, flood, spot and disable over the entire spectrum .
 
Second MarineBeam for picking out distant buoys and navaids. $129 but 5+ well built. 3 D cells last multiple seasons. The beam is so tightly collimated it's easy to avoid flashing your own railings and ruing your night vision, unlike a boat mounted spotlight...just poke it out the window. 100% made in USA.

After seeing a night time demo at at marina, most cruisers order one. Don't call it a 'flashlight' or it will void the warranty.

Everyday Carry is a StreamLight ProTac90. Small, light, and in the belt carry it can be on and pointed where I am going if I have both hands full. Works great for spotlighting house numbers and dark steps.

On the boat I have a WM rechargeable, smaller than the one linked above, but also I believe it has 500 lumen and a Pringles canister fits perfect to narrow the beam and avoid the back flash from the bow pulpit.

Thanks All, very helpful and interesting to see what everyone's using. I ended up buying a Streamlight spotlight from Home Depot, battery powered with 12V backup. Combination of great reviews, lifetime warrantee, and good price. Harvey, love the pringles solution!

I bought a great light this year. It is a NEBO. It has all the things I need in one light. An adjustable beam lenses. A slide out light bar for a area work light, Magnet base, water proof IP67, and USB charging an a releaseble lanyard. It has it all. Pictures to follow. Paid about 30 bucks. When I also wanted to buy flashlights, I ordered a random flashlight from Amazon. What I like most about my flashlights is that they cost little, but their quality and lighting scale are impressive. It seems it was a tactical LED flashlight. You should look for something like that. I think it will be enough for you for several years ahead. And you'll laugh a lot at how cheap it is! I only know one thing about it -- the producer is VONT. I've heard many positive things about this company.
