Anyone have good pics of their factory cooler rack and cooler on a late model 22 cruiser showing space in motor well and fastening/removeability. I am seriously considering this for my boat.

Thanks eh,

Stefan

A good fabrication shop can make you one that is better in my opinion. I built one for really cheap. And it is really nice. I am going to refab it this year out of 304 stainless when the season turns. I will try to post a picture.....

If you have a choice use a 316L grade stainless. There are grades of 304 that may show brown or tarnish quickly. And do not use any tools, especially wire wheels or grinders, that have been previosly used on regular steel. Rust will show up almost imediately.

Still Crazy came with a cooler rack. We immediately removed it because of the obnoxious penetration into the cockpit area. Rather, we keep two smaller coolers on the floor and use them for additional seating. Ours is a factory supplied rack that very easily removes with just two spring loaded pins.

Also, I'm very interested in filling the splash well notch to keep following seas at bay, and that would interfere with keeping the cooler rack. I'm also trying to keep as much unnecessary weight from being located far to the rear of the boat. So, I'd not sell my rack or the big ol' cooler, but it will probably just sit in the garage during the time I have the boat.

For whatever it is worth, the following sea thing is not something I'd lose sleep over. BTW, I rarely boat in protected water.....You just need a cooler rack and cooler like mine so you can keep the seas at bay and have a rack. My cooler is strapped to the rack and so big it protects the back of the boat from any minor waves getting things wet. I'd post a picture, but I am too stupid to figure it out.....

I agree about following seas. Take a look at how your boat performs while out. When the seas rise behind you, the buoyancy of the stern brings it up to a safe place. The only problem would be with a breaking wave and, if they're doing that, you shouldn't be out there anyway!!

I also would not worry about being "pooped" by a following sea. We ran down wind/seas in about 8 to 10 foot conditions in a full gale wind against tide in Johnston Straight--nary a drop aboard the C Dory 25. The only other boats we saw moving that day were over 100 foot in length.
