Evi's bite the dust

So after all the hoopla, BHP drops all Evinrude/outboard production and will focus only on boats (packages now get Mercs). No soapbox but what about the skipper who just spent 12K on a re-power to a motor no longer made? Guess it is Yammies, Hondas, Tohatsus (same as Hondas in bigger ranges), and Zuks. Also, even Australians now cannot but a reliable two stroke that can be fixed with a spoon and a hammer. Perhaps time to look at diesel inboards again, the 10-40 HP naturally aspirated FWC engines and we slow down to 5-7 MPH. Ole never thought it would come to this!!!!!

Bob,
I have seen this coming for some time, as nothing in my neck of the woods has had an Evinrude on it lately and BHP has been very quite...

Interesting, but not un-expected. There are some very interesting new high hp outboards, to commute with the "7's" .

Coming in 2021... But so far the OXE are very heavy and very expensive.

OXE MARINE AB TO DEVELOP MANUFACTURING FOOTPRINT OF OXE DIESEL OUTBOARDS (125HP TO 200HP SERIES) IN THE USA. SELECTS OUTDOOR NETWORK MANUFACTURING AS MANUFACTURING PARTNER.

The the 50 hp Yanmar Dtorque 111 turbo-diesel has supposedly been introduction for 2 1/2 year's, but I don't know of anyplace one can be purchased in N, America.

Mercury developed a spark ignition diesel outboard for the Navy. Not for civilian sale to my knowledge.

Question is will mid size electric outboards (which are available) become as affordable as mid size diesel outboards?
