This weekend we did one of our long range last minute no plans whale chase get back after dark and prayer runs. My folks have been out with my brother all week on their boat slowly cruising the Sj's. Susan And I wanted to see everyone so we left Everett at 11am friday morning and cruised north from Everett. Nice smooth water but lots of fog on the way up. I'm glad that I spend a lot of time fooling with my radar in clear weather. It makes it easier to figure out when he horizon starts to get really close to you. At times we where down to 50 yards or less. Going thru the deception pass was really bad and on full flood on the way out. We cleared the fog after a stop at Skyline marina. From there it was just a north 45 mins to Matia island to meet the family.
We ran into another c-dory there. He (forgot his name) Just got his boat and spent a week with the wife in the Islands. She had gone home and he was spending another week in the area. We had a great time walking the island and seeing the family.
Saturday some guy started up his generator at 6 am to make coffee. I swear if he was not my father I would have sank his damm boat. So I go back to sleep until 630am when the forementioned sob knocks on the side of the boat to see if I'm awake yet.
After the family left for home port Susan and I headed over to Friday harbor for a movie and to stay the night. We saw " burn after reading" which I still cant decide if I like or not. It was funny but not in a good way most of the time. To tell you the truth the whole movie was about nothing at all. If there was a lesson learned it was not to get involved in other peoples drama.
Sunday morning with out generator crazed coffee wackos on the dock I was able to sleep until 9am when the crab dip netting dock moneys ( kids) where allowed to run free. We got up and after listening to the radio for a hour we headed to the turn point area to go look at orcas. We caught up with them on the canadian side of the border and ended up spending three hour following them around and enjoying watching them. We finally headed back to the good old USA and jones island. After a short late lunch we started to head home but ran into more whales at Yellow island. These were T's that had just killed a seal and where looking for another. We finally left the area after 530pm and headed home to Everett on smooth water. We hit the dock last night at 830 in the waning light. You got to love full moons. Total milage was about 230 for the weekend and we burned 75 gallons. Lots of gas but lots of fun.

Sounds like a great trip, Tom. We missed you in Sequim but you had family time, which is more important. We had to deal with the fog on Friday too, going south, but nothing quite as thick as in Deception Pass itself.

Coming back we were able to run at 30 mph the whole way from Sequim to Cap Sante (my temporary home while my dock is rebuilt).

I'm heading up to Canada on Friday with a friend from Wisconsin. Hoping this wonderful weather will continue through Tuesday. If it does maybe we will get as far north as Desolation Sound.

I was signed up and itching to go to Sequim, but the small craft warning, email from Ruth about the wind at Port Townsend, and then a phone call with fog info gave me pause, so I stayed home Friday. Sat I headed up to Anacortes in great weather looking for Oracle. I found her, but at the dock, not sailing.
Then off to Matia, luckily finding a small spot on the dock that had been filled with another C-Dory according to what the others told me. Well, Tom and Susan, now I know why the new owner knew as much as he did about his boat and places to go! You were one step ahead! Spent @5 hours Sunday at Sucia then headed off to James for a wonderful overnight at another small 4 boat dock. What an incredible moon over the Strait, then later over our boats!
Weather was super, conditions were also, and the only thing to report is the raccoon at James spent most of the night raiding the 4 boats. Gus woke me up with a vengeance each of the 3 times that creature tried our boat. It is a great little island even with the thief. Anne with 700 miles now on Sea Coaster...
