Everett Boating Access

On March 16, 2011 at 5 PM there will be a "Presentation of the Boating Access and Public Facilities Plan" in the Blue Heron Room, Waterfront Center, 1205 Craftsman Way, Everett.

"The Port of Everett is currently updating its Boating Access and Public Facilities Plan for 2011. This plan inventories our boating and public facilities, itemizes goals, objectives, and tracks our demands and needs for these facilities. The plan will also call out for specific improvement, enhancement and new projects that may be elgible for grant application. Past projects receiving grant funds as functions of the original plan include the 12th Street Marina Guest Moorage Dock and A-Dock."

"The Port would like to invite its marina slip holders to the Blue Heron Room in the new Waterfront Center on March 16 beginning at 5 p.m. to learn more about the development of this plan and provide your input toward the plan elements. When the Boating Access & Public Facilities Plan is completed, the Port will be formally eligible to pursue and apply for future state recreation grants for the projects recommended in this plan."

(I'm unsure if those of us that are NOT "slip holders", are able to attend this as the above seems specific to them. However, it might be possible to attend if anyone is interested. It seems that possibly the general public might be welcomed given the subject nature. Since, I work that day and night, I'm unable to even attempt to attend, but thought that I'd pass this along anyhow.)

Dave last yr they were taking contact info [at the ramps] of boaters interested in providing input for improvements etc at the port of Everett. I gave my info and they called, but we played phone tag, so I never gave my input. Wonder if it's all part of the same long-term plan.

I was a 'slip holder' in Everett for a couple of years. I finally left because the Port of Everett didn't give a r*** a** about its tenants except to collect their money. I, personally, would not put in any effort advising the Port, as I found them to be unresponsive to even simple things. The office workers resented being told that the bathrooms hadn't been cleaned in a week, or that the gangway gate was not self closing anymore.

The docks served by that gate held over $20,000,000 in boats and paid over $100,000 per month in rents, and it took repeated phone calls and over two weeks for them to repair that gate. This is not the way to treat your customers.

I could go on, but I can feel my blood pressure rising and I am out of that rat hole, but if anyone wants to attend that meeting, please do, perhaps they now care, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Mark, I don't know if it is part of the same plan. I was given the information that I quoted verbatum above.

It is sad to "hear" what Larry just shared as I had no idea they were so unresponsive to requests, as I'm not a slip holder but certainly a frequent user of their facilities.

With the recent improvements and expansions that they have recently undergone, I hope that their responses are no longer as Larry described above.

I just talked to my brother who is a long time slip holder at Everett. He was unaware of the meeting but now that he knows about it, will most likely attend. He has been more pleased with the Port during the last year or two, especially with the construction of the new docks and how they handled all of the moves that had to be made. He has never had a security issue at the Port, either with his sailboat or his car when it has been in long term parking. I think he has been there for almost 40 years. (Yikes)
He is also a frequent user of the boat launch at the Port. He has two trailered sailboats that he races in Port Gardner Bay. He and his wife also kayak and row in the river and sloughs. He is very interested in boating facilities and access to the water, so a good person to attend the meeting, I think.

Thanks for the heads up Dave!

Robbi

My experience over the past three years as a slip holder at the Port of Everett Marina has been fantastic. I'm not saying Larry H is wrong about his interactions, but customer service and response to questions and the like have been excellent as far as I am concerned.
