End of Feb to the Bahamas

Time to start planning. Byrdman are you still onboard? Are any other C-Brats interested in a floatila at about that time? Clear customs at Westend in the Abacos. Tour the protected waters of the Abacos as far as Little Harbour. You must have a couple months to spare just in case. We are fair weather cruisers.

Sign on right here.

Awww Darrell! Your a year or 2 early for us! DAMN! :cry Have a great trip and would love to hear your stories/assesment so we can plan for the future in our R-25!

Geez...it was 24 degrees this morning, and you are talking about cruising warm water. Could be a fun crossing - how many miles do you figure, and what are you doing for fuel?

(I'm working on Linda now...either gonna buy truck, or run the Canal to get there.....of course, the Seattle Boat Show is coming up...)

Not that much warmer in upper Florida this AM at 26 degrees. Hopefully it will warm up by Feb--and it is always warmer in the S. Part of the state. The major issue is Northers--and we have had a bunch this year. It is more the wind vs gulf stream, which gives large steep seas, rather than the temp.

Have fun!

I have convinced my cocaptain that the gulf stream is not much different than crossing the Mississippi River in a fog with no lights and listening for barge traffic. She is begining to come around but I need more information.

Did someone say that Pete's Pub is one of the layovers? I had the good fortune of taking Pete of Pete's Pub and his delightful family on a flounder gigging charter in October before he returned to enjoy the warm tropical breezes of the Bahamas. Since I made sure they returned with a cooler full of fresh flounder he told me if I ever made it his way to bring a bunch of thirsty friends and the beer would be on the house
:beer :thup.

I don't think I can make the gulf stream crossing in my 16' Angler so Mr. Wefings if you're tuning in I will need to reserve your 25 rental for a couple of weeks unless you or Charlie can talk me into buying a 23 Venture (hint: the 16' is a getting a bit cramped).

The family is all thumbs up about Flounder Gigging

They will be enjoying fresh flounder for many nice meals to come

Yup, been there and done that and going to do it again. Played the swinging ring game while drinking a cool Kalik. Pictures in my album. anchored right in front of the place. I can't tell you what a neat experience Pete's Pub is. The C-Dory can run right up on the beach in front of the place.

My wife says I need some brats to go with us to the Bahamas. The reason is she wants some company when guys go out on the reef. help ................. start planning for the best reason of all to have a boat.
We cross the stream safely. Join us.

That is the Hunky Dory anchor stuck in the sand.

That place reminds me of McDuff's on Norman Key. Anybody else been there? I'll see if I can dig up a picture, great place, owned by a couple of ex-pats, husband and wife. While you're waiting for the best hamburger you've ever had, the husband (waiter and cook) comes by with a squirt gun and says "open wide" (tequila)! 8) (Jim & Joan, THIS is a must-see place for you)

It looks like a 900 mile trailer ride but if we can make a connection in Palm Springs it sounds like fun. I told my wife there were shopping malls everywhere. My only problem is I have to get back for nutrea season around march, you get five dollars a tail. You can buy a lot of gas and bait that time of the year.

Where are you talking about going, Capt. Palm Spring, Ca.
Do you mean Palm Beach, Florida?

What are those things that are worth $5.00 a tail?

That's the animal. They eat all the vegetation in the marsh. The Governor got Paul Prudome (the New Orleans chef) to create some recipes thinking this would hold the population in check. I have a problem with it because when you clean one it just gives you the feeling it should be caught in a super rat trap (even if they are vegetarians).

I used to hunt those things with a bow, and sometimes with a 357 magnum. If I had lived in louisianna I would have been rich by now. Destructive little critters, and some are not exactly little. Had a Brittany Spaniel one time that got a little excited when one came by the boat and she jumped out on top of the nutria and ended up with those front teeth down through the top of her snout. Had a heck of a time getting the fight broke up.

Just wondering if you are going as a "Floatilla" or do your own crossing. The Tom Cat does poorly at 7 to 8 knots--10 to 13 knots poor fuel economy best ride and economy in the 20's.

No problem Bob. If the Tom Cat falls apart on the way across, Doing 20 miles an hour. I'll catch up sooner or later and pick up the pieces. Fast or slow a few boats spread over 60 miles can comunicate all the way across. All will get there before noon and can cruise together on the banks.

Personally I like to drag a couple lures during the crossing. 10 miles an hour is perfect for Dorado, Wahoo etc. One fish will feed the flotilla a day or two. That is the fun part.
So crank up the Tom Cat and come on down.

Are you snoozing, Marc. Capt Morgan made you an offer for the rental. No comment from you. Now is that any way to do business? Maybe he would trade the 16 for ?????????. Put Buzz on him.

I am interested in a late Feb trip to the Bahamas. At one time I lived in Miami and would launch my 19 ft cabin cruiser with a 105 horsepower outboard from the port of Miami to Bimini. It was in the 1970's and I would go with two or three other boats. We found the trip wonderful, we just waited till the seas were not too bad (3 to 5 ft seas) and dead reckoned allowing for the current. At that time there was a non directional navigation beacon located on Bimini and we used it to find Bimini. In these days of GPS the navigation should be no problem. The boat I had back then was not half the boat a C-Dory is. If several boats go together it would make the trip safe and much more enjoyable. I have a 22 cruiser with a 90 Honda and a 5 HP kicker. The boat is on a trailer in North Carolina, an easy trip to Fla.

If I am able to wrangle a "kitchen pass" I could devote 2 or 3 weeks to such an endeavor.
