Emergency toilet products?

I find Porta Pottis to be fairly gross, but sort of a necessary-evil if a marine head is out of the question due to boat size, for example.

Has anyone used some of the newer, disposable waste systems, ones that have a bio-degradeable bag containing some weird absorbant? They seem to be marketed to campers, military, survivalists, etc.

Kitty litter for humans, sort of.

Any feedback would be appreciated, also ideas for privacy while using same on a small boat (with modest passengers).

I use a PETT in the winter time at Lake Powell when the water is turned off. waste can grown in the garbage dumpster when leaving the park no cleanup.

Is that "grown", or "thrown"?

Also, is the system for single-use, or, is it like a cat litter box where several uses are OK before changing/discarding?

Hey Karl, Like Jody, I too use the PETT "Wag-Bag" system and know cruisers on CD22 that have used them for years.

We also use the "female" portable urinals on board and that makes things much more controlable and less waste needed.... read this to mean you only use the bags for solid matter uses.

I like the things due to the fact that we all make some type of garbage and use trash facilities at our marinas, docks and homes anyway. ....and, there is not a head and/or porta-pot to clean or lug around.

Brother Mike has the fancy folding 3 legged set up and I use a Todd snap on seat/lid on a simple 5 gallon bucket. Both get the job done, and, both are very portable as to use in the boat, on the beach/island...

Thank y'all for the feedback. I like the 3-leg folding version because it will store so much more compactly than a 5 gal. bucket, unless, of course, the bucket will have other uses on board between toilet uses. Since it uses a plastic liner, it's probably not as gross as it at first seems to have the bucket be dual-use, as long as one usage is not food-related.

I'm new to boating (well, actually, re-entry from decades ago), so I wonder about the ethics of overboard urine...I'm fairly certain it's not legal on inland lakes, but probably something that most people do anyhow without losing sleep over. Getting rid of liquid via the OB route would certainly extend the use of the absorbant...

if your near the beach or a island theirs nothing wrong with a shovel and bio degradable tp. used this method while camping and wheeling in the mountains all the time.

The Bumper Dumper®

AND DON'T FORGET: "You can use the Bumper Dumper® as a stand alone unit as well as hitch mounted."

"STAND ALONE", HUH? FREE COMEDY INCLUDED FOR JUST $69.95!

What's more to ask for?

Add this one to Boating/Camping Mistrakes 101 when you forget to put it away and head down the freeway after your trip!

Or add in the vision of The Admiral on the Throne as you head down the campground loop go go gather up some firewood from the nearby forest.

Joe. :thup

Joe, we both left out the manufacturer's disclaimer:

"DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION!"

This is so redneck, right up there with Arkansas Chrome (duct tape, for those not in the know...)
