Electronics/Electrical issues -- coincidence?

Lucky Day

I had Lucky Day out yesterday after it had been sitting in its freshwater slip for quite awhile. Three issues showed up:

1 - The Garmin 172C GPS started and worked fine, but shut itself off after 2-3 minutes of operation. Retried it many times but it continued to power itself off. The other gear on the same switched circuit operated fine.

2 - The depth gauge was intermittently erractic (reading shallower than the actual depth.

3 - The starboard trim tab would not deploy. The light at the switch/indicator came on and the port side tab functioned normally.

I will be doing all the standard troubleshooting on each device. Curious if there be a possible common source for the problems. Or just coincidence.
Thoughts?

Measure the voltage at the connection for the GPS with a digital volt meter--take all of the connectors off, clean them and put back on with a corrosion blocking gel. It certainly could be a ground, but also on the positive side, with some corrosion.

I would also ensure that the transducer is clean and clear of any gunk. You might also check the setup to ensure that it is reading feet and not meters.

No other great ideas...

Steve
