Roger - hmmmm - you got us rock-knockers figured out. Now a question for the pub?
After US major earthquakes, in the past 50 years, what has been determined to be the single largest cost?
a) geologist's egos {and statisticians} who couldn't predict the darned thing.
b) bridges, highways and other such infrastructure
c) buildings, such as housing and hospitals
d) boats, parked in marinas and driveways
e) none of the above

e) none of the above. The largest single expense has been the cost of psychological counseling after the event. Seems most folks live under the illusion that "the rock is our foundation" - and when the one solid thing, the Earth, they can count on, gives them a shaking it destroys their faith in the future.
So for all of us - it's good to recognize the potential hazard, accept it, know how to protect yourself and loved ones as best as can be done, and get on with life.
