Don’t want to drill holes!

There are always creative ways to accomplish most anything, however in my mind there is something to be said about “clean and simple”.

I did not say that this vacuum system is/was the only way to go, but to me it meets the “clean and simple” test, plus quickly moveable/removable (in seconds) without a trace.

I enjoyed your opening question and all the ideas and reply's. It's sort of Deja Vu all over again. A few years ago, while still a "rag picker," I broke down and bought my first "new" boat (a Corsair 24). About a year later in Desolation Sound I met the broker who had sold it to me. He came over to inspect and asked why I had not done a lot of small improvements & etc that we had talked about on email. My reply was that I didn't want to drill holes.

His reply still echos in my mind: Get over it!

I'm still conservative and don't drill many, but his words echo in mine mind when the "to drill or not to drill" question comes up.

As I've been improving/re-fitting my 22, I have overdrill/fill/re-drilled any holes that need to be there (cleats, etc.); but I have also been using things such as Weld Mount studs and footman loops, and fiberglass angle or stock glued in place, when such would avoid holes I didn't feel were necessary or optimum.

I had completely forgotten about the Weld Mount system http://www.weldmountsystem.com/products/fasteners/

I think I first saw it on one of the blogs such as The Marine Installer's Rant...

That would be my first choice, especially to fasten wire bundles, tubing, switch panels, etc. to the inside hull or bulkheads, and definitely for transom-mount transducers.

Helloooooooo from Iowa again,

Amazing, how we got from the original question (almost from the jump) of “So what have other C-Brats done to handle fishing rods and landing net without drilling holes”, to below the waterline overdrill/fill/re-drill.

Seems like two different discussions, both of value but greatly different.

"We Have Met The Enemy and He Is Us"

Reviving this old thread from the dead, as I too would like to avoid drilling holes after filling about 30 of them from previous owner... But specifically I am looking for ideas on mounting up electronics.

I checked out the SeaSucker.com website mentioned in previous posts and was impressed by all the products they offer! But I didn't see anything specific to mounting electronics, say a GPS bracket or VHF bracket. It looks like maybe the standard 4.5" SeaSucker has holes, into which you would screw the electronics bracket into, if I'm understanding correctly? Has anyone else tried something like this, or another solution such as 3M VHB mounting tape?

I don't expect to remove things very often, but in all likelihood may want to "upgrade" to a bigger/better GPS system in a couple of years at the rate electronics progress these days, and don't want to add new holes on my dash each time. For the transom-mounted transducer I've been using the SternSaver glue-on mount, which works great and can be re-drilled for a new transducer if necessary, and copied that design for mounting my battery and fuel tanks to the floor. But for the console I'd like something that doesn't require gluing or drilling. Plus if I ever add a new toy, I may want to move an existing component slightly to make room for the addition.
