dogs on C-Dories

Hi Lyle and Janda,
You probably remember Monty from Guttenberg. He is a beagle/dachshound mix my son got from a shelter while in grad school in Florida. He is a great companion on the boat and does very well with travelling. He can "hold it" for a phenominal amount of time. We are a bit concerned about gators on our upcomming trip to Florida. We will be in areas limited shore acesss and will have watch him very closely. Hounds are great companions, but cannot be trusted with their freedom. They will put their nose on the ground and off they go.
Some friends of mine used to have Skipperkees. They were nice dogs and very boat friendly. My friend has a story of them walking the gunnels at speed and thinking nothing of it.
I really enjoy the companionship of the dog while boating, but they can limit your freedom and choices.
Hope to see you on the water again this year!

The right dog for a C-Dory should:

Follow orders from the Capt.
Swab (or lick) the deck
Hoist anchor
Take the dog watch
Change the oil
Know how to use a sextant
And... hope to be Captain someday.

Finn - rescued rez dog and happy as hell on Powell.

Congrats, Every dog that we had had was a mutt, no pedigree, and they were all outstanding. Come to think of it, I don't have a pedigree either.

Hmmm, a simple download, eh? It's taken me (Janda) two days to get this picture on! Hope it works. (I'll send another picture of her in another post if this one is successful.)
This is Lindy, our new first mate, waiting at the back gate for the C-Dory to come pick her up! We're working on an album with a few pictures of her, but it's still under construction.
We appreciate all the suggestions that others have sent. We'd never have gotten this far without them!

Thanks, Roger, for the compliment for Lindy. And I'm happy I got her pictures on here, but I have the album really goofed up, need to repair it. Guess that's tomorrow's project, right after Lindy finishes working on our training. 8)
