Deleting mistakes before someone sees how dumb I am.

Nerd Brats,
Still struggling with putting pictures in a post. After it not working, I used to be able to delete the post. Now it does nothing by hitting delete. I can edit but not delete. I hope my machine is going to hell instead of me.

I've sporadically had that same problem deleting posts.

We can expect it in the C-Dorys For Sale column, where it (the lack of a delete) exists to protect against someone defrauding others by offering one thing, then switching or deleting the post later.

The simplest "cure" I know of for this problem of lacking a delete function is to switch to another browser program, like from Safari to Firefox, as the different browsers interact differently with the C-Brats server website.

The same is true of the photo functions. I have more drop down menu options in Firefox than in Safari.

Which type of computer do you have, a PC or a Mac? It makes a difference in what advice we can give you about posting pictures in a thread.

I believe you can not delete a post if someone has already replied to it.

Try deleting a new post, before anybody replies.

Hopefully Dave Kruger's explanation is accurate and the reason the delete function disappears is that a post cannot be deleted once it has been replied to.

My remarks about browsers have been made before by several C-Brats. Different computers and operating systems use different browsers, which are programs that allow the computer to browse the internet. Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox are just three of the many of those that are available. Each browser system reacts differently with the server computer that has the home base for the C-Brats website. If you experience a problem with the C-Brats website while using one browser program, sometimes changing to another browser program will solve the problem.

If you have a PC type computer, this LINK will explain to you the process of adding photos.

Thanks, both explainations have sunk in. I guess those two posts where my boo boo's are will have to slowly fade away in time.

Captd,

If it's that bad and you NEED to get rid of it, why not just edit it and say "Message deleted" (done all the time). You can even add to see a follow-on post (dated) later if you want...

Of course if you do something really stupid, the reply from the next guy/gal that quotes your previous post will not be something that you can edit. So, the key is to be stupid only for very short periods of time and to edit faster than the next guy can quote.

Right Roger!

Usually I can erase it before someone nails me, but sometimes you just get caught with your pants down! Then they take target practice at my helpless remains!

Funny thing is, I usually know in the back of my mind when I'm going out on a limb or leaving myself open. In the rush to be first to answer a question, I sometimes take chances or speak before thinking twice. Stupid me!

Joe.  :thup

The morning report:

I'm getting the delete "X" function on some posts, and not on others. And I'm getting those results BEFORE anyone else has posted a reply. Maybe it varies with topics/forums?

Joe. :?: :?: :?:

being I am know for my misspellings I try to type in "word" first and then transfer it here as a post. WORD has a better spell check that helps me a lot. This does not help with being stupid but at least your stupidity will be correctly spelled.
