Defiance to build Arima

It looks as if Team Defiance does some serious open ocean fishing. And if I remember correctly, Arima were good fishing boats, also. Neither of them were built for cruising.

When we bought Journey On, Arima and C-Dory were built next door. Apparently they've gone through the same journey of being reborn. I wish them luck and hope they've got the skill.

This is interesting - an asset sale means Arima was a distressed property, probably acquired for a song. Not news of course.

Does anyone know if it is also really true, something I had heard for a long time, that Defiance Boats also owns the C-Dory molds, and Triton pays them a royalty on each boat they build? I don't feel comfortable asking Scott Boysen directly. And has anyone heard anything from Scott or Triton recently? I have not stopped by for a quite a while, I will be in Birch Bay the next four days, I will see if I can swing by to find out what is going on there.

This really surprises me as I was at the Arima factory in November and talked to Don. A that point, they were consolidating all of their molds into a small portion of the building that they own, and renting the remaining part to a company next door that is expanding. The plan was to wait out the economy and hopefully get going again in the near future. Arima was building boats for Sterling out of Oregon, and the owner has moved his operation to another builder and I heard that they will be at the boat show.
To be truthful, it's difficult for me to see Arima being built by a new builder. I think that Arima has built the best boat in the NW, with the most consistent quality and workmanship for the most years, period.
I hope that the Arima line of boats continues as it has for many more years.

Interesting that they are going to have two Defiance built Arima's ready for the SBS. They didn't waste any time.

If you're going to do it, do it right. The SBS can be a significant fraction of a company's orders during the year. If I owned a boat company around here, I wouldn't want to miss it.

defiance builds a very solid boat, and stand behind there work. with arima going under IMHO I dont think a better company could of taken over. I wish em the best and hope that it works out well for them.

I understand the potential upside to having these at the SBS. I can imagine the pressure they must be under to get these done RIGHT after only having the molds for a short period of time. The last thing they'd want to do is show a boat that's not quite ready for prime time.

I'm assuming that when a company buys molds that its just that....molds. They would still need to figure out the trim / interior. Maybe it's easier than I am picturing.

My guess is that when they bought Arima, they got all the assets they wanted to keep. If it's like other recent sales of other boat builders this may have included partially finished boats, interiors, etc. Also, they may have been able to retain someone from Arima who was familiar with the particulars of the build process for those specific boats. So it might not be such a rush job.

Beerman, Defiance is also getting Don Gross and a bunch of the former Arima workers, "getting it right" should not be a problem except for the short time. I'll bet toward the end there will be a few around-the-clock shifts to get the Defiance Arimas out the door!
