Daydream's Great Loop Blog!

pat . Paul Gleason and family are now living in Richmond hill Ga. He had a Cd22 on Camano Island but moved to the south last year. I sold their house for them. If you want to know whats to do or were to go you should talk to him. they bought another non c dory boat but have been exploring a lot of the area.

When you get to Charleston you should go to the Battery park to see the old mansoins, Historic Charleston City Market, the USS Yorktown, Fort Moultrie is great day touras is fort Sumter. There is even Castle in the bay.

I was stationed in Charleston when hugo hit. In fact I was married to my first wife there, but besides the bad event i did really like it there. Lots to do in the old down town area. Really worth a stop.[/url]

I got a day of from blogging! Patty wrote today's blog post covering the last two days! We are at Cumberland Island trying to decide where we will end up tomorrow, it kind of looks like St. Simons Island, but we will have to see when we get there!

Hi Pat-
Fort Fredrica National Monument was a good anchorage for us on Saint Simon Island. I sent you a PM with a map link showing other anchorages we used along the ICW. Let me know if you have any trouble opening it.

Thanks, will check your PM! We are anchored just north of the Causeway Bridge, it is a good spot, there is a boat ramp nearby to land Baxter! What we are in need of now is a good spot to anchor about halfway between here and Savannah!\

On edit: not seeing any PM from you, please try again!

HI Pat and Patty,

And greetings from your buddy Bob L. He came over and did my Vessel Safety Inspection, and I passed   :thup

He asked about you and I sent him the link to your blog. He had never heard of the Great Loop. Said he was going to check in and follow along.

Have a great day, a safe Easter, and condolences on the iPhone Pat.

Bob L. (Lakshas) and I went K though 12 together! He is Roger Clark's next door neighbor! I did not know he was a boater or Coast Guard Auxiliary!

Yeah, the iPhone is gone, but it is just stuff. Stuff happens...time for an upgrade anyway, that is one way to look at it!

We are in the nearly perfect anchorage here in Georgia tonight, will post the blog tomorrow when we have better internet!

HI Pat, Yes, Bob is a boater --> Fisherman, but got into the USCG Aux in the air division, and was flying patrols for the CGAux. Sold his plane last year, but still fishes. He has done my VSI for several years (5, I think), and is pretty sharp. Really nice guy.

Have a great night, and stay cool.

Yesterday's blog post is a day late, no internet last night! Planning to buy a new iPhone and a Verizon Jetpack today! We were in the nearly perfect anchorage at Walburg Creek - sandy beaches are rare along the ICW in Georgia!

Hey Pat, that entrance to Walberg creek is one of our favorite spots around here. I caught a pot full of big stone crab there last fall. There's more sandy beaches from that point north to Savannah, including on Ossobaw and wassaw islands. Bradley River on the north end of Ossobaw is a nice protected anchorage. Sounds like you guys are having a great time. Your probably already further north, but Marker 107 at Kilkinney marina has some really great seafood. Enjoyed reading your blog, and am envious!

Pat. was following along on google earth and what a mess of windy water ways. How are you going around Savannah? do you have to go out into the ocean or ?

I also saw this in the Savannah area. Looks neat. Wormsloe Historic Site. looks like by boat only.

This installment of our Great Loop blog covers the last two days, including our wonderful tour of Savannah today!

Tom - we will just follow the magenta line in Garmin Blue Chart marking the route of the Atlantic ICW. If I had to actually chose which was to go at every place you could go one way or another, I would be lost somewhere back in Florida!

Pat I have been looking for a map of the route on line but dont seem to find anything other then large vage maps. Other then the the blue chart are there any online maps that can zoom and pan? Glad and are having a good time.

For those who are curious what a 20 amp "Straight" connector is:

41wATclFieL._SY355_.jpg Note that there are two straight blades as in a 15 amp plug, but one is rotated 90*

The 20 amp twist lock (curved blades): (Different spacing than 30 amp and slightly different width of the blades--to make it even more confusing, there is also a 15 amp twist lock)

We found that there are some marinas when we travel which have both types of 20 amp plugs, so we carry the 2 types of 20 amp adaptors, and a RV 30 amp adaptor to be used when in an RV park on the road.

Thanks Bob. I just thought the "male 30 amp to female 20 amp straight connector" sounded backwards to me.

OK, today's blog post covers Savannah to Beaufort and our day today in Beaufort! Our friend Jonathan Arthur from Honest John's Fish Camp also came in this afternoon on the C-Dory 22 Cruiser Salty, and is anchored nearby! He covered in two days the same distance we covered in 13 days! This is a very cool place, and we really made the right decision to stay here an extra night so we could really experience this historic town!
