Our friend Jan on C-Change was heading up to Canada, and would be passing through the San Juans, so we planned to go out and cruise together for a few days. The weather was great, and we had a wonderful time!
August 1st, we met up at Tombolo Cove on Decatur Island. Don't look for this on your charts, it does not even really have a name. It is the little cove on Decatur just north of Lopez Pass, where a tombolo connects Decatur to a little bitty conservancy area. Google "tombolo" if you don't know what that means! A neat anchorage for C-Dorys, very shallow!

We dropped our crab pots in front of Chris and Janet's place (Luna-C), which is next door more or less to Jeff Messmer's place on Center Island, and got 7 crabs!

August 2nd, we motored to Watmough Bay, Lopez Island. We hiked the trail out to the point, this is a great spot, but there were more boats there than we were expecting. Some low life stole one of our crab pots at Watmough, we watched helplessly.
August 3rd, we cruised over to Blind Bay. There were Camp Orkila kayakers on Blind Island, just as there had been the year before. Baxter was a HUGE hit with the kids! Jan and I went over to the store at the Shaw ferry terminal, where he got an ice cream cone and I bought Patty some rose water facial toner, which proves how much I love her (the store keeper said I should say that!). Got three more crab!
August 4th we moved on to Garrison Bay on San Juan Island, where we hiked up to the officers' quarters, and then to the British cemetery. Jan went to the top of Young Hill, but we were not up to it! Got my postcard pic from the officers' quarters!

August 5th, we went to Prevost Harbor, Stuart Island. Jan was lucky to get a spot on the dock, behind some big boats, in just enough room for a C-Dory, and we rafted to C-Change. Jack of the CD16 Pocket Yacht was there with his 40 foot Tollycraft Glory Be across the dock, and we got a tour of the Tolly! Very cool, and very BIG! We hiked to Turn Point, a 5 mile round trip, and felt very virtuous!

August 6, we said our goodbyes to Jan, and he headed north! We headed over to Shallow Bay and anchored up alone. We hiked from Shallow Bay to Ewing Cove and back, not sure of the distance, but it was a three and a half hour hike. Baxter was kind of wornout by Ewing Cove, but he bounced right back. He is such a great boat dog!

August 7th, we headed to our all-time favorite, Matia Cove. Again, don't look for this on your charts...it is the SE cove on Matia, and unnamed on the charts. My employer, Grant Weed, and his lady friend Diane joined us at Matia Cove, where we hiked to Rolfe Cove, and had drinks and dinner on our cockpit! A very pleasant evening! Grant has a Hewescraft 22 named Motion Granted (pretty good, he is a lawyer and his name is Grant, this is a two-fer!). They rafted for the night, and we did OK although there was a bit more "motion" than we would have preferred!

August 8th, Grant and Diane headed for Port Townsend, and we headed back to Blaine, where we had an uneventful retrieval (thank heavens) and a short trip drive to Birch Bay.
All in all, one more great cruise, more great memories!
