Grace Full, I am sorry we missed you. My wife and I just leisurely cruised our Venture 23 up the ICW from Charleston to Beaufort, NC. Until now all of our years of boating have been spent in the West so this was our first East Coast cruise. I can tell you we had a wonderful time on the ICW in all respects! In Beaufort we then rented a car and drove back to Charleston to retrieve our SUV/trailer, and then towed the boat up to Portsmouth and enjoyed Steve & Joan's awesome dock and superb hospitality before joining them and 3 other boats on the North Carolina Loop Cruise. It was also fabulous in all aspects.
The boating opportunities in these areas seem limitless with all of the rivers, bays, etc... We loved boating in SF Bay and the Delta, but these areas can get boring after many (many) years. We are loving the diversity of opportunity presented by having trailer our boat to the East Coast.
We are currently visiting family while enjoying a berth at Occoquan Harbor Marina on the Potomac. From here I suspect we'll cruise north to DC for a couple of nights, although we are also considering heading south so we can attend the Chesapeake Bay Pocket Yacht Rendezvous next weekend at Spring Cove Marina in Solomons, MD. Weather this week looks wet but that isn't too much of a problem in a C-Dory.
Enjoy the ICW!!
